Totally - Rafa has tons of time to chase the ball down and then hit at pace, and it comes to Roger with little time to react.

I don't know - I think it sounds like an absolute hoot. I hope there's a stream for this somewhere.

Indeed. Everyone who plays on the grass side has a great disadvantage. They don't switch the sides of the court every 3 games?! That's just stupid and unfair. Nadal will have more time to react on his side. Federer's shots and his serve will be slowed down, while Nadal can hit winners past Federer on the way faster grass court with low bounce.
I mean what battle should that be. It's a farce if true.

I'm not sure how this is going to work but if they change ends, they will also have to change shoes all the time.

I'm allergic to morons.

Re: Battle of the Surfaces: Rafa-Roger Exhibition in Palma

this is going to be one of those exhibitions like kid's day at the US Open, where people laugh. I wonder if they're going to get Anna kournikova to be the chair umpire.....

And they'd have to change ends. wouldn't be "fair" otherwise.......

Re: Battle of the Surfaces: Rafa-Roger Exhibition in Palma

they will of course play at the same side the whole match, this is a experiment, if it is indeed true, which really should be interesting to see.

probably nadal would win rather easy, returning everything and poor federer have every shot bumping back to him

Jonas B Svensson-Ivan Lendl 7-6 7-5 6-2

Re: Battle of the Surfaces: Rafa-Roger Exhibition in Palma

I don't think they can change ends, because the risk of injuries would be very very high. So I assume it will be Fed playing on grass and Nadal on clay. And that is just stupid. Federer is better on grass, but the advantage comes from the fact that the opponent has little time to react because of the low and fast bounce of grass. Whereas Nadal would have all the advantage here, because clay would give him all the time in the world to hit his passing shots.

I still don't believe this is happening. But if it does, it's odd that a guy who is suffering from foot problems is ready to go through an extra match like this. And Federer is complaining that the season is too long and he's still ready to include a stupid exhibiton match like this in his schedule.

Re: Battle of the Surfaces: Rafa-Roger Exhibition in Palma

A long time ago I thought it would be a fun idea to have a court of which one half is one surface and the other half another surface and to see what happens. I never thought anybody would actually try it in real life

By the way, what do you call the surface of such a court- 'Class' or 'Gray'?

It's insane! I mean... there are no words, unless they make a big joke out of it.

I don't think that anyone seriously cares how unfair the conditions might be. It's for show, nothing more.

Won't happen. Nadal will pull out 10 minutes before with an injury which he sustained when losing the week before in Barcelona. "I cannot play at 100%, and am very disappointed as this is one of my favourite exhibitions".
