Would like to see some new pairings that are a bit different this year like Brown/Lisicki, Gulbis/Ostapenko, Khachanov/Sharapova, Kyrgios/Barty, Stepanek/Kvitova (!) etc. The pairings last year were really stale and made the whole competition quite boring (apart from the Federer hype).
id rather sabine play tournaments that can actually help her ranking so she can skip this. but yeah, some new teams would be nice. i can only imagine what an ostapenko/gulbis team would be like but i doubt ernie would have any interest in this event.and keep stepanek away from petra
I loved the event this year, so much light-hearted fun.
Federer/Bencic is a great pairing. Anyone else thinks she looks a little bit like a younger Mirka?
Would definitely be interested in the Khachanov (to see him in such an environment) /Pova and Gulbis/Ostapenko pairings.
"The point is that to root for Federer is to root for a Platonic ideal. It is like rooting for truth. (...) Detractors who said, “Don’t you get tired of him winning all the time?” were missing the point. Every victory was a validation. No one gets bored by the sun coming up in the morning."
Wow, that's some coup! Kokkinakis will work well in this tournament, interesting no Kyrgios but I guess Brisbane must be paying him a good appearance fee. Was hoping for someone like Barty with good doubles prowess but Gavrilova seems to like the competition so as the highest ranked Aussie, deserves the spot.
The only bad teams there are Japan and Canada, so 6/8 ain't bad
Even Canada is a high profile team which will be fun to watch. I reckon they would have offered Nishikori a massive appearance fee as they really want to promote the "Asia- Pacific" region but he probably won't be fit enough so they used that money to get Goffin. Sugita isn't terrible though. Nishioka would have been a brave, but maybe wiser choice.
