AAMI 'Kooyong' Classic 2007

Since I saw the Hopman Cup thread I thought it was time to make one for Kooyong. Who are the most likely players to come out, and tickets are on sale now. Excellent value for money, I paid $87 for 4 days of watching the top players. I really hope they bring some spaniards out, and that Mirnyi comes out again because his personality is so damn great. I'd like to see Nalbandian come out too because I haven't seen him play before.

JUAN CARLOS FERRERO

Juan Monaco, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Gonzalez, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Juan Ignatio Chela, Fernando Verdasco, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Lucas Arnold Ker, Nicolas Lapentti

Re: AAMI 'Kooyong' Classic 2007

i've found the news at the sydney newspaper

http://www.smh.com.au/news/tennis/sa...455701915.html

player field:
  • federer
  • nalbandian
  • ljubicic
  • roddick
  • safin
  • haas
  • stepanek
  • murray
sorry no spaniards as they like the tapas in sydney (or auckland?) more but it's a strong field, the tournament is as always spoilt for choice.

Re: AAMI 'Kooyong' Classic 2007

thanks a lot. Yeah it is a rather nice field, though I'd rather Murray and Stepanek wern't playing, but oh well. The rest of the field is nice though. And yeah it is too bad about the spaniards, but thats what aus open is for.

Ah I see you're a Murray fan. I'll be honest, I've seen a few of his Wimbledon matches on TV and the guy just really annoys me. I'm not saying he's not a good player, his ranking reflects that he is, but i've watched him play before and i really don't enjoy watching him. And with a field as strong as what it is, I think theres about a 1% chance of Murray winning it.

Murray is young, brash, common and arrogant...just we need in this country to get tennis to the masses....maybe he wont win it....Id give him a 33% chance....remember he has beaten the likes of Federer and Gonzalez this year so you never know !

Yeah it would be good if he could publicise scotland a bit more. And mabye he does have a good chance since it is only an exhibition match, and the top players rarely play their best. It should be an interesting tournament though

Re: AAMI 'Kooyong' Classic 2007

I said once in GM when appeared Kooyong's list of players, and I will repeat here: WHERE IS GONZO??? Fernando has said many times (and the last one it was few days ago) that he has scheduled this exhibition in his calendar and he will go to participate there. Maybe any player of that list finally won't go? (Murray or Stepanek maybe... )

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

I completely agree with you. At least Gonzo is entertaining, and he's a great player. I would much rather see Gonzo than Murray or Stepanek.

Ok, I've decided I am going to go for the 1st day again. It was a nice lead-in to the AO for me last year so I'll give it another go (This time with a cushion for my arse - those wooden seats are BAAAAD ).

I'm happy to see Ivan, Radek and Andy there, they will give me something to cheer
