Abu Dhabi SF Goffin def. Murray 7-6(4) 6-4

First win over Murray in straights no less (had not won a set prior).
Murray dropped serve at *4-5 second set from 40-0 with some careless approaches and Goffin hitting good returns.

It's always nice to get a win against that bogey opponent. Well done and good luck!

Upset! Unfortunately I woke up having just missed the match - how was it overall? I'll try to catch highlights on Youtube later.

Will be interesting if Murray/Nadal end up playing for 3rd place rather than the title.

Goffin ending the 1st set with 2 aces in a row. Is this real life?

tactically played aggressive but controlled tennis. Murray was pinned back from the baseline a lot. Goffin's FH DTL was very effective and passed/wrong footed Murray a few times. Murray's downfall was the *4-3 to 4-6 capitulation in the 2nd set (up a break)

This is an exhibition. Doesn't count as a win over Andy Murray.

Exhibitions don't count so Murray is still unbeaten since the DC loss to Delpo in September (technically he is unbeaten since his USO QF loss to Kei as DC offers no ranking points anymore). I recall Kygrios beating Murray in straights at the Hopman Cup? Andy clearly doesn't give a shit about pointless tournaments and sees this as just a good workout before the serious tennis gets underway.

Also, Pepe - exhibition results don't count towards H2H.

Abu Dhabi SF: Goffin d. Murray 7-6(4), 6-4

Since the other Mubadala SF got a thread, this one warranted one.

Murray fans, was it fun while it lasted? Downfall has begun NID.

Goffin sporting a fresh hair cut and playing even fresher.

I for one would like to see how Mugray does in the 2017 AO first before making any judgments!

Murray is done.

He needs to retire. It's over.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Andy didn't take it as seriously as the other players. He tried to finish points quicker than usual and tanked the last game from 40-0 pretty much.
It's clear that he is the most secure with where his game is and used it just for practice, not to get a validation of his level.

Don't think you should say that, Murray clearly values DC and wanted to win the match, and it is counted in the official W-L. Exhos likes this aren't, though. Obviously Murray wasn't willing to go all out there. Still good play by Goff, relaxed Mandy is quite strong nevertheless.

It's not an official win but could be important. Novak lost to Goffin in straight sets at Boodles this year and exited R3 at Wimbledon...
