Mubadala QF: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeats Andy Murray 7-5 6-3

Solid serve and aggresive play from Tsonga. Murray didn't look good but it is a good comeback to the tour after the injury. He can play competitive tennis and surely he will rise his level tomorrow against Wawrinka.

Tsonga versus Djokovic in this fast surface should be interesting.

Re: Mubadala QF: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeats Andy Murray 7-5 6-3

Murray looked okay. Of course MTF will read too much into it and claim he did not look well at all, but at the end of the day it is his first match back in months, he's bound to be rusty. Despite all that he still managed some good points here and there and will build on it in the next match and in Doha. I mean, he lost here last year to Tipsarevic in the 1st round and went on to win Brisbane, so I am not worrying, it's just good to see him back.

As for Jo. He was pretty impressive. Served very well, and forehand was great at times.

Great match by Jo, very solid.
Nice to see him playing well without any pain.

Excellent result! If Tsonga can consistently play like this in 2014, he truly has a chance at winning a grand slam. Serve and volley technique today was very efficient too.

At least it's good to see Murray back and Tsonga playing well (seemingly).

Don't think Murray had what it took to try and come back once he let Tsonga get ahead in the second set with that awful service game. Didn't look too bad overall though, at least capable of hitting some good shots now and then - hopeful that he'll be good enough to get to at least QF / SF stage at Australia. Hope to see Tsonga do well there too - it'd be great if he could get back to a top 8 seed.

Unfortunate that Murray has to play Wawrinka next

Murray must have been a disaster to lose against Jo, his record against him in legitimate matches is like 8-1

I don't think Murray played with all he could play if he was interested to win. He is trying something and he is playing at a low level and this is ok. I am sure we will see a decent Murray at Oz Open in few weeks.

Tsonga looked good btw. He should play more S&V in the future. Very effective.

RIP HENRY.

Don't think this shit will cut it, at all. Very erratic play and ROS was awful in the 1st set. First match of the season though, I should probably not read too much into it but it seemed he was playing more like the way he played pre-Rasheed.

C'mon now, their matches are usually competitive. His serve was indeed disastrous though, specially the ball toss. Hopefully it's just rust or part of the normal recovery process from surgery.

Very effective in a fast court and playing against someone recovering from injury, yes.

We shall see how he does against Nole.

Murray looked a bit rusty with some flashes of his usual brilliance. He'll be fine after Doha.

And Tsonga played great attacking tennis, serve&volley like it was the 90s again. Great fun to watch.

Murray said the courts were very fast, so who knows, Tsonga might beat Nole tomorrow...

Murray's calves look bigger. Sorta like how J-Dubs' fro looks outta control.
