Seniors event
John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Boris Becker and Mats Wilander will headline a senior tournament at Westside Tennis Club November 10-13, sources confirmed Monday night.

Those four players have won 24 Grand Slam titles. Also in the eight-man field will be 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, Todd Martin, Mikael Pernfors and Aaron Krickstein. The Houston Champions Cup is being promoted by Courier's company, InsideOut Sports, and will not be part of the Delta Tour for 35-and-over players.

For Westside, it replaces the ATP's season-ending Masters Cup, which moves to Shanghai after two years.

There is supposedly a teleconference today announcing that the Champions tour will make a stop in Naples, FL in March, to be held at Lely.....

Martin looked the best out of all of them. I guess not surprising since he is the baby of this tour. Thank you to the tennis channel!

Re: Stanford Financial Champions Cup Houston (November 9-13, 2005)

Day 5 Sun. 13, NOV 2005
3rd place Playoff - McEnroe def. Krickstein 64 62
Final - Courier def. Martin 62 63

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/rssstory.mpl/sports/3458530

Some comments from the matches I watched:

Todd Martin has completely changed his service motion in the 14 months since he retired from the ATP.

This tournament really represented a changing of the guard in seniors (if there is such a thing). While Johnny Mac has been hanging in there against guys 10+ years younger than him for the last few years, the additions of Courier, Ivanisevic, & now Martin (as well as Kraijeck & Becker in Europe) may force him out within the next 1-2 years. His guile & touch & movement are letting him stay in there for now, but he had no answer to Martin's power (& Goran's either I suspect even though they didn't play each other this week).

The mid-match player interviews are a good addition to the coverage.

What is up with Muster? First reports of his brawling with Pat Cash in the last tournament, now he gets into it with a fan & totally goes nuts. Way too much drama for a seniors tournament.

muster was funny, some fan heckled him so he went over screaming telling him if he is so good he should come down and try to play...mac was going nuts in his matches as well...im digging this seniors tour stuff hope we get to see more on tv

I thought it was funny that the commentators kept talking about Martin's power, when he wasn't exactly known as a Safin or Gonzolez when he was on the tour. He changed his service motion cause he said he hurt his shoulder or something. I noticed he kept rubbing it. So his serve isn't that good anymore.

I was really impressed with McEnroe, even though he lost. His groundstrokes look strange, but he is cunning and a great competitor. I just wish he would keep his mouth shut.

I'm definitely going to go to the tournament in Naples.
