Re: A new appeal moderator

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this thread.

Here's a list of those who've expressed interest in being the appeal moderator (excluding BroTree123 who's not sure yet):
  1. Freak3yman84
  2. viruzzz
  3. Jverweij
  4. The Bulldog
  5. djokovicgonzalez
  6. Mark Lenders
  7. Punky
  8. Goldenoldie
  9. Prodigy.

I will make a poll by the weekend, and hopefully we'll have our appeal moderator by the end of next week.

Re: A new appeal moderator

I believe the members should have the widest possible choice for this important position, and therefore I will come out of retirement and put my name forward as a Liberal Democrat candidate.

Re: A new appeal moderator

I am putting myself forward for the position of appeal moderator.

I have been banned twice on MTF, and have been successful with both my ban appeals. I think someone who knows whether the user has a case or not, would be a good appeal moderator, and this is why I am putting myself forward for the role.

Mark Lenders banged your girlfriend, I'm sorry to tell you that mate.

Re: A new appeal moderator

I would like to put myself forward.

I have completed the internet, am generally considered to be the best poster on MTF, am good looking, have a massive following on MTF and in life in general and will go down in folklore as a hero of our times.

Re: A new appeal moderator

What if the appeal mod gets banned, who is he going to appeal to?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Re: A new appeal moderator

In order to let the members pick the appeal mod, my preference is to have an anonymous public poll.

Let me know if you think the poll should not be anonymous.

Re: A new appeal moderator

aren't the majority of posters calling for transparency in choosing a moderator. so why would the poll be anonymous?

Re: A new appeal moderator

I agree that the poll should probably be public, although I can see some arguments against it.

Rather more important in my view are the mechanics of voting. I believe that s simple first past the post system with a single ballot might not be the best option, as you could end up with an extreme right or left winger who happened to command a substantial block vote.

I would suggest:-
First ballot, top 5 go to second ballot.
Second ballot top 2 go to third ballot.
Third ballot head to head.

I know this will take longer, but as this could be a very important decision for the future of the board it is important to get it right.

My concern with a non-anonymous poll was that members may be discouraged from voting if say, more than one of their friends is running, or if they may think that if they don'y vote for whoever wins, the appeal mod may hold it against them if they later appeal an infraction.

But I don't have a preference either way, and this whole process is about what you (the members) want.

Sure, we can do it that way. We just have to make sure that enough people vote.
