Tennis Tipping #20 ~ Miami ---> Congrats to Jess and Jess/Aimee :worship:

Tennis Tipping #20 ~ Miami

What is Tennis Tipping?
In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different

participant and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format

and your scores are combined.

Note:
- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will decide who moves on to the next round.
New tie-break method: 2007 TT TB Method
- In case a player (i.e. the actual ATP Player) retires in a match, this match will be counted as long as one point has been played. If players are replaced

by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. You can only play one tournament per week. Entries will be based on ranking. Everyone can commit.

Please read this post for more information
Tennis Tipping 2009 Rules Thread (out of date - use 2013 Rules)

How to send in picks:
Picks can be sent in as soon as the draws are ready. Remember, you pick a winner in every match! Picks should be sent by PM, so that

your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: [TT: Miami, day #] although no-one ever takes any notice of this . Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play each day

. If you're still in both singles & doubles, you use the same tips for both. For doubles, you still tip the ATP singles matches, not the doubles!

No changes can be made after the play has started. It will be highly appreciated if you send in only the last names of the players. See the

example below.

[EXAMPLE OOP]
Nalbandian vs. Baghdatis SR1 PTS
Davydenko vs. Monfils SR2
Youzhny vs. Nieminen SR3
Hewitt vs. Cañas
Kiefer vs. Djokovic

Desired format to send the picks:
Baghdatis 6-2, 5-7, 6-4
Monfils 2-1
Youzhny 2-0
Hewitt
Djokovic

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE
If the board goes down as has happened before, you can e-mail your picks to the respective managers:

For singles: adeegee2k@yahoo.com
For doubles: luvdj0102@hotmail.com

Good luck

Doubles Differences!

Duncan/Robin Hood vs gulzhan/*julie*: Berdych 2:0 +1 for Duncan/RH (And that's correct, I would put my beloved dog's life on it )

Me/Aimee vs. StatBoy3/Gu: As Adam said earlier, Nadal 2:1 +1 for us

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Quarter Final Report

In typically British fashion, 4 became 1 as only outsider MuzzaWuzza made it through to the last 4 on a fascinating day in Miami. SeagullUk was the first to fall, as he looked strangely out of focus in a crushing defeat to Nadie. Although many commentators were stunned by such a sloppy sloppy effort in a huge match, the reasoning became more apparent later in the day when it was revealed that he had requested an early start in order to be able to watch the Roma vs. Man Utd football match. The revelation has led to many angry fans demanding their hard earned money back, labelling him "TT's answer to David Nalbandian". Nevertheless, credit must go to the Russian for another solid display. After a stunning beginning to her TT career, recent results had suggested she was in something of a rut, and the impressive run here was badly needed and will hopefully push her onto greater things.

Next Brit out was alansk, as he was ousted by TankingTheSet in a bad tempered encounter. Tempers flared before the match, as the Dutchman saw his opponent stuck on the toilet for over 45 minutes earlier in the day and accused him of being nervous, a suggestion which alansk refuted. When play did finally begin, both appeared slightly overawed at the occasion and produced a poor, topsy-turvy spectacle before TankingTheSet edged through, earning himself a first ever TMS Semi-Final spot as the elderly Brit began to tire.

Savestheday91 is also into the last 4 after a narrow win over invu2day, but the victory was overshadowed as more match fixing allegations hit the TT circuit. Having shown very little in previous tournaments to suggest she could far here, the Serbian's run has led to many rumours going around, as this is just the latest in a long line of pretty females who have gone far in tournaments run by the controversial adeegeezinho. With Nadie also going deep in the draw, and Alekutza's storming run in Marseille earlier in the season, gamblers have been piling their money on the likes of Tytta!., Deboogle!., Aimee., Deea, Peta Pan and of course Mara_M to win in Rome (the next tournament managed by adeegeezinho).

MuzzaWuzza kept British hopes alive with another surprise win, this time against Siders. The youngster has been keeping a low profile despite her outstanding week, and information on her is still hard to find, making this report rather difficult. Siders was cheered on by his brother Scala from the stands, but couldn't find any inspiration, slumping to a disappointing loss.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Round 4 Report

VaiBrasil’s Tennis Tipping career came to an emotional and abrupt end as invu2day ended hopes of a dream finale with a ruthless victory. Despite the loss, the Brasilian thrilled the TT crowds with some adventurous play as he has so often done during the course of his career, and will be badly missed with many of the ‘new balls’ on the tour seemingly cagons. Immediately after the loss, tributes came pouring in from across the Tennis Tipping world, with tears being shed and many describing him as an “absolute credit to the game”. The victorious Brit seemed almost apologetic in victory, but predicted a swift return as the “lure of TT is hard to resist“. GustavoM_Fan and ExcaliburII were inconsolable, and Labamba heaped praise on him, saying the door would always be open for a return.

The result overshadowed that of alansk's, as he spectacularly ended the 10 match winning streak of Labamba as fatigue finally caught up with the Finn. The win confirms that the proud new dad is back to his best, and it won't be long before he is knocking on the door of the top ten once more. Labamba, who hadn't suffered a defeat for almost a month lost his cool when on the verge of defeat, cracking open his head in fury with his mouse after losing a crucial point. Overall, the match was played in the best of spirits, with alansk admitting luck had played a huge part in his win, but Labamba rejected this, saying his opponent "fully deserved the win". TankingTheSet will now face the born-again alansk, as he reached the last 8 by defeating Kissing_Rain. After charging out the block, the Dutchman lived up to his name by throwing away a point, but still prevailed comfortably.

The huge wins for invu2day and alansk seemed to inspire their countrymen, as they led a charge of 4 Brits into the Quarter Final. MuzzaWuzza’s dream run continued, as the qualifier stretched her run in Miami to 6 wins with a tight victory over soltmann_89. Despite playing in the biggest match of her short career, the Brit showed no signs of nerves and ended the hopes of the Chilean, whose sombrero will be sorely missed by the crowds. The youngster was joined in the Quarter Final by SeagullUK, who despite the win over eljab, still refuses to give any interviews to this column, still angry at the snub earlier in the tournament. With the UK quadruple being kept apart in the Quarter final draw, it leaves the incredible possibility of an all British Semi-Final line-up. Nadie will face SeagullUK for a place in the last 4 after the Russian saw off a spirited challenge from Lucky Loser ChinoRios4Ever. Despite being involved in an on-running feud with fellow Russian Maria Sharapova, Nadie got off to a strong start and managed to cling onto the lead for the duration of the match.

Serbian savestheday91, who has been quietly sneaking her way through the draw up till now, made the rest of the tournament sit up and take notice after a mauling of Strangelove. Interestingly, there has been a noticeable improvement in her results since her split from long term partner Sheva, who has gone in the opposite direction, even failing to show in Miami. In her post match interview, savestheday91 confirmed she feels more able to express herself at the moment, and dedicated the victory to close friend Aimee who seems to have disappeared from the tour. Siders is another who has crept his way into the Quarter Final, and he also looked impressive in a comfortable win over Foosimoo.

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Round 3 Report

In one of the great days in British Tennis Tipping history, an amazing 4 Brits make up the last 16 in Miami after a super Saturday at the Sony Ericsson Open. With many observers now suggesting alansk is returning to something like his best form, he ruthlessly disposed of LaTenista, even refusing her a point when hawkeye made a clear error late on in the match. Next Brit through was Seagull UK who set out with a point to prove after being snubbed by previous media reports, and did so in the best possible manner as he edged past Belarussian Davis Cup hero gaynor. Newcomer MuzzaWuzza's excellent beginning to her TT career continued as she took out a frustrated and petulant TMJordan, who smashed 6 keyboards on his way to defeat. Currently ranked 254, and barely known in these parts, many fans attending the practice courts have failed to recognise her, some not even knowing which sex she was. However, with a bright career in the game likely, it won't be long until this changes. 20th seed invu2day completed the UK quartet in the 4th round, finally gaining some national revenge on Croatia as he saw off Deathless Mortal.

Labamba's unstoppable run extended to double figures with another comfortable victory, leaving bookmakers running scared as they slashed their odds on the Finn to take another title following a string of bets on the heavy favourite. Such low odds have not been seen since those on Xristos' last opponent, and it is understandable given the ease at which he has torn through the opening three rounds. A further three seeds were swept aside in the bottom half of the draw, opening up the increasing possibility of back to back TMS wins for Labamba, as TommyB., marcelwsks and Björki all fell to surprising losses. Also in the bottom half, savestheday91 staged a remarkable fightback to claim a rare 4th round slot, as Hotzenplotz capitulated when closing in on victory. Having gained 4 weeks free training with TT legend adeegeezinho as a reward for his performances in Marseille, pundits had suggested they'd seen a marked improvement in the German's play and attitude, but he imploded when in possession of 2 match points, gifting the win to his grateful Serbian opponent.

This column doesn't hand out praise lightly, but we must applaud ourselves for a couple of predictions made at the beginning of the week. Knowing this was VaiBrasil's farewell tournament, we anticipated a strong result from him in Miami, and he hasn't disappointed as he crushed Lithuanian hopes of a first TT title and knocked out egiorazz. Clearly still able to compete on the TT tour, fans are starting a petition to convince him to change his mind and not join the weaker PAW tour. Our second prediction was that soltmann_89, aided by the power of the sombrero would go deep in the draw, and he has also lived up to expectations by reaching the 4th round with a narrow victory against FiBeR. The Chilean will be joined in the last 16 by compatriot ChinoRios4Ever, who has made the most of his fortunate Lucky Loser spot and been impressive in reaching the latter stages of an ATP tournament for the first time.

In other matches, the lovely Nadie who is more popular amongst male tennis fans then either Anna Kournikova or Maria Kirilenko were is also through after beating Colt_th_magnific. Qualifier eljab, also a national hero after gaining more recent success than any other Swiss sportsman battled past JM-Del-Potro in a titanic tussle. 14th seed Foosimoo edged out 21st seed Smasher, who seems to be struggling with his poor 2nd serve at the moment and Siders kept French hopes alive with a good win over Peta Pan.

In the doubles event, tragedy struck after adeegeezinho/l_mac were scandalously denied a win due to some terrible umpiring, and this commentator is too upset about losing such a wonderful, loving pairing to comment on any other matches.

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Round 2 Report

In his final tournament before retiring, VaiBrasil produced one of the best performances of his career to stun 2nd seed greatkingrat and reach the 3rd round. In a tight battle, the Brasilian held his nerve and now has a glorious chance to progress further as he faces lowly ranked Lithuanian egiorazz. Many fellow Tennis Tippers have expressed their surprise at his option to join the PAW tour, with ExcaliburII and Allez-Alejo among those to state that he is making a big mistake. However, VaiBrasil seems determined to stick with his decision, and said his one remaining hope is that he has done enough to deserve a statistical tribute from Voo De Mar.

Former world #1 alansk continued his resurgence by edging past Netin!, backing up his claims from earlier in the week that his game is in good shape. The Brit is looking for a solid run here to justify his place in the Davis Cup squad, an inclusion which has been slaughtered by the media. However, a recent vacation during which he correctly decided his TT career was more important than any new born children seems to have put him back on track. British TT is currently going through something of a golden period, and they look to have unearthed another promising talent in MuzzaWuzza as he defeated fellow Scot Duncan. Invu2day made it a hat-trick of Brits in Round 3 after squeezing past GlennMirnyi in a late night classic, and the Brasilian will wake up this morning to find his homepage spammed by fans angry at his defeat. Forever-Delayed however, was unable to make it a quad of Brits in the last 32, losing out to Deathless Mortal as Croatia continued their sporting dominance over England. British born Austrian Gavnich77 is also through after a confident victory over GustavoM_Fan, who looked strangely out of sorts.

Labamba once again infuriated journalists, who are beginning to run out of superlatives for him after another victory, with balloon his latest unfortunate victim. Frenchman trucul now has the unenviable task of trying to stopp the Flying Finn, and although it is a long shot, there were signs in his display today that suggest he may cause Labamba some problems. FiBeR is another player in form, though he didn’t have to do much today to crush a truly woeful Bolar Bolabi. The only moment for spectators to enjoy was when the match ended in controversy, as Bolar refused to shake hands with his opponent, seemingly angry at FiBeR continually calling him by the incorrect name of Bolar Balobi.

Having received hate mail from Kazakhstan after failing to mention their representatives in yesterday’s reports, I feel compelled to inform you of defeats for Gulzhan and Renaud. Gulzhan was simply unable to cope with an inspired TMJordan, and 18th seed Renaud was in disappointing form as he was easily beaten by Nadie, who is still struggling to shrug off her “doubles expert” tag. In other matches, Peta Pan took care of the #28 seed Allez-Alejo as the large workload from the last couple of weeks took its toll on the American, but savestheday91, clearly not working hard enough in her role of doubles organiser managed to find reserves to topple Superior1. Sombrero power was once again in force as soltmann_89 overcame tiptopdaisy, who bemoaned his inability to practice due to a bad back. TT chiefs are also rumoured to be investigating whether the sombrero is giving the Chilean an unfair advantage after complaints from both opponents he has faced thus far in Miami.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Round 1 Report

Defending champion and world #1 keqtqiadv suffered a shock defeat as the Sony Ericsson TT Open began with a whole host of surprises. Having been deprived of 4 seeded players after Sheva, coreyschucky, Caralimon and Tomek failed to adjust to the time zone in Miami, a terrible day for favourite backer dylan24 was completed when an additional 12 seeds crashed out. Without doubt, the surprise of the day came when Dmitriy overcame a gap of 96 places in the rankings to stun the top seeded keqtqiadv. Clearly suffering from pre-match nerves, it seemed the match might not even take place at one stage after Dmitriy failed to show up, prompting frantic searches for any Lucky Losers remaining. However, it transpired that he had simply gone to the wrong court, and when the match did begin, he performed superbly.

Keqtqiadv's misery was compounded when his wife, 6th seeded scythe19pro and soul mate, 7th seeded Tytta!. were also beaten, much to the delight of ExcaliburII. Despite the disappointing defeats, both have exciting times ahead with lessons scheduled with adeegeezinho to teach him their respective languages. Having been named as a late replacement manager, fans favourite adeegeezinho struggled under the strain of his huge workload and slumped to an understandable loss against JM-Del-Potro. Strangelove on the other hand, free from the exerts of organising the tournament eased through.

It was a mixed day for the cagons of the TT world, as chief cagon ExcaliburII paid the price for his arrogance and was beaten by M.C. Having shown a complete lack of respect to his opponent when the draw was made, the Argentine was left with egg on his face after an epic loss. Enjoy Incubus produced a stunningly bad "Ciparelli TT" display and was destroyed by Machiavelli. However, GustavoM_Fan shocked linus and TMJordan cruised past scarface to keep the cagon dream alive.

Indian Wells champion Labamba extended his winning streak to 8 matches, looking impressive in seeing off Canadian johnnyCanuck. Marcelwks, who was runner-up at the Pacific Life Open also carried on his good form, defeating the lovely Aimee, who at least had better news elsewhere when her missing dog was found. 10th seed A_Skywalker, Mara_M, and 19th seed Aleksz, who have all recently criticised the number of players obsessed with TT were booed when they entered the courts, and found out what happens when you don't give the game your absolute 100%, all being soundly beaten. John John also hit out angrily at the whole TT tour after being beaten, absurdly claiming the WTA TT tour was stronger.

In a rare good day for Croatian TT fans, a record 4 players reached the 2nd round. Experience proved vital as tennisfancroatia proved why he is Davis Cup captain, edging past compatriot RickDaStick. Deathless Mortal, Superior1 and rising star Machiavelli joined him in progressing. Elsewhere, fans jumped on the bandwagon of soltmann_89, obviously loving the wonderful sombrero hat he was wearing, which seemed to inspire him on his way to the performance of the day as he crushed the talented Gutturnio D.O.C. Fellow Chilean alonsofz, a hero back home for inspiring a large number of upcoming stars saw off the challenge of Ekin to join fellow countrymen soltmann_89 and ChinoRios4Ever in round 2.

Story of the day came on the outside courts as VaiBrasil, who is playing in his final tournament overcame newcomer lukela85 to maintain his hopes of a fairytale ending to his career. The Brazilian, who is sadly switching to the rival PAW tour after Miami will now face 2nd seed greatkingrat on a show court, giving him the ending he deserves should he suffer a loss.

Unfortunately, we are still in negotiations with the doubles event (sponsored by Limited Too) and as such cannot comment on happenings there as of yet. We hope to reach a deal soon though.

Re: Tennis Tipping #20 ~ Miami - Change in management! New commitments in here please

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Final Report

savestheday91 is the toast of Miami after fighting back to claim both the singles and doubles titles at the Sony Ericsson TT Open. In a low quality final, it was the inexperienced MuzzaWuzza who got off to the better start, racing into an early lead. However, as noted by Labamba in the TT commentary booth, the youngster's lack of big match experience began to show as she lost her head, allowing her Serbian opponent back into the match. The victory secured the biggest singles title of savestheday91's career, justifying her decision to ditch Sheva and concentrate on singles, though the Dutchman has responded by kidnapping the champion's future doubles partner ufokart. For MuzzaWuzza, it ended hopes of a dream run from qualifying as she unfortunately ran out of steam, but she can be proud of her efforts this week. The run to the final has given her bragging rights in the family, outshining her elder brother who was disgracefully cheering for savestheday91 in the final.

In the doubles final, savestheday91 completed her phenomenal fortnight by teaming up with fellow blonde bombshell Amaris to edge past Robin Hood/Duncan in a tight final. The match was played in front of a rowdy crowd, with the pretty blondes being backed by the vast majority of the pro-American crowd, and fanboys adeegeezinho and GlennMirnyi particularly vocal. However, the match was interuptted when a German fan named Bilbo made his way past security onto the court, and proposed to Amaris. The stunner said she'd consider the offer, as she's still trying to get over the revelations that ex-"boyfriend" Chris 84 is in fact a female. Anyway, back to the tennis, which followed a similar path to the singles final, with the American duo fighting back from behind to win the title in a hard fought but very friendly encounter.

*savestheday91 claimed the singles title, but MuzzaWuzza looks happy enough with her runners-up trophy*

Thank you once again to tournament sponsors Limited Too for organising an excellent week, and congratulations to the winners. Look forward to seeing you all in Rome.

Adam's Daily TT Commentary - Semi Final Report

MuzzaWuzza and savestheday91 will square off in an all women’s Sony Ericsson TT Open final after contrasting victories in their Semi-Final encounters. Without doubt the surprise performance of the week has been that of MuzzaWuzza, coming from absolutely nowhere to claim a spot in Sunday’s showpiece. With her opponent still something of an package, Nadie discussed tactics long and hard with her coach before coming out to play but it was to no avail, as the Brit held her nerve under the most intense pressure. After the win, MuzzaWuzza expressed her amazement at the ease in which she has reached the final, calling the competition “poor” and confirming what many believe that we’re going through something of a ‘mug era’ in TT at the moment.

In the second Semi Final, a rejuvenated savestheday91 saw off the challenge of TankingTheSet as she continued her impressive form since her acrimonious split from long term partner Sheva. After marvellous start for savestheday91 where she bolted out the blocks, there was no way back for the Dutchman, who despite throwing everything at his opponent could find no way back, though he did thrill the crowd late on with some brilliant Tennis Tipping when the match was all but over. The win completes a remarkable fortnight for the Serbian, who has also reached the doubles final with Amaris, a result which looks set to see her regain her position at #1 in the doubles rankings. A victory in the singles final on Sunday will also see her reach the heady heights of the top 20, surely ending the debate about her being solely a doubles expert, as well as the criticism that she is merely a clay court specialist. For TankingTheSet, he proclaimed himself satisfied with his tournament, and said he looks forward to seeing his name inside the top 100 for the first time when the new rankings are released on Monday.

With the finalists never having clashed before, we will now preview what looks set to be a mouth-watering match:
