Still its a good field considering there are two other ATP tournaments playing at the same time.
Thinking Blake for the title...............he could continue to do really well over the next two weeks (San Jose and here)
True. The tour IMO has done itself a disservice by fracturing itself with 3 tournaments in 3 different parts of the world at the same time. On one hand it allow more folks worldwide to see ATP level tennis, a good thing. On the other hand it waters down each tournaments draw, not such a good thing. There are other factors such as appearance money, traditionally Dubai and Rotterdam pay more than Delray Beach and Memphis. Strength of players in relation to where they live geographically is a major factor as well. The Euro's given the choice would rather stay near home, and the Spaniards would rather be on clay in South America, etc. Can't blame them for that. So to say that one field is weak may be true, but then again in one sense they all are, some just more than other. Indicting a particular tournaments field as weak in a vacuum is a little unfair versus considering all the factors.
Think about it this way. Is Federer or Karlovic ever going to play Vina Del Mar? No. Will Juan Monoco or Carlos Berlocq ever play Memphis or San Jose probably not. Unless ranking reasons dicate a player to play at their 2nd or 3rd choice give 3 to pick from, some tournaments will never see certain players ever. At this point the ATP does not think it has a problem and for them they may not.
