Davis Cup 2005 SF: Croatia vs Russia in Croatia

Im not sure about the surface yet. its probly going to be Carpet. Cuz Ivan is just ridicouls good on it. as he showed this week. but i think grass might be a better fit for Ancic.

Ivan will be amazing again. he's won he's last 8 DC matchs.

Croatia 3-1. Ivan goes 3-0 again, as Ancic losses 3rd staright singles match in DC

Unless Russia adds Safin and Joachim Johansson to their roster, I don't like their chances.

Carpet against Safin is as dumb as the US decision to play Ivan on hardcourt! I mean last year in the indoor season Ivan was on fire until he met Safin who schooled him on playing on carpet! I mean Safin loves the purity that carpet has with the elements being blocked out!! I'm calling Russia on this!!

schooled him? If i remember correctly ivan led 76(0) 20 before Safin came back and won it in 3 tight sets, hardly a schooling.

I am though not quite clear, with what they understand as "carpet" in Croatia. The last tie against Romania was told to have place on carpet, and at the same time they say "Greenset". Greenset is hardcourts. Acrylic-based, but still technically a hardcourt.

Sure not. But that will indeed be crazy. I sure hope they will do that. Because by that they will neutralize not Safin - who proved that he can play on grass, not Youznyi whose record on grass is not bad. That will neutralize the one who is the only one of all involved who is absolutely pitiful on grass - and that's Ljubicic - the man who singlehandedly won two ties for Croatia. I sure pray they do that..

Ancic would win both on grass. and they can win doubles..

on indoor...they would win doubles and Ivan and Mario would beat Davy. and Ivan vs Safin would be a coin flip

Re: Davis Cup 2005 SF: Croatia vs Russia in Croatia

and now we know where it will be played SAME PLACE AS vs Rom

Ancic is naturally keen to play the Russians in Split: "The atmosphere was great, everything was great, so Split deserves one more.”

Pilic agrees: Split is our choice, it was great. Surface? The same. Same surface,

Croatia has not lost a home tie since 1999.

Why are you so sure Ancic would beat Safin on grass?
