Slovak Republic vs. The Netherlands

I'm not really surprised that this is the only DC quarterfinal not to have its own thread. Not many Slovakian posters and my compratiots are more supportive of Spain than their own small country.
Anyway, what are your predictions of this match-up? Holland misses their two best players (Schalken and Verkerk) and will play with Wessels, Van Scheppingen, Sluiter and Rogier Wassen.
Do they stand a chance against a seemingly stronger Slovakian side, containing Hrbaty, Beck, Mertinak and Kucera?

Looking forward to this tie! Hup Holland!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

I am just waiting for the tie of Switzerland in September so it is not just spain-lovers in Holland

I am looking forward to see Wassen playing Go Rogier

Yeah! Do you remember we had a discussion ages ago that Wassen should be included in the DC team? I'm glad he's finally selected! Now hopefully he can play well with the spotlights on him!

I have had discussions aobut Wassen with several people, so I don't remember if I had one with you. I just really like it to see a Roermondenaar in the DC so for a change I will cheer for Holland! Go Holland

Re: Slovak Republic vs. The Netherlands

I'm not really for Holland, but i would like this team to win, esp now with the "best" players not playing, hopefully this team can win easily!
Maybe the heads of some dutch players from the "old" team will shrink a bit

Re: Slovak Republic vs. The Netherlands

even while all my fave players are from other countries, I usually cheer for Holland. (except when they play my swiss guys of course). And I don't think what you say about the Dutch players is true for all of them. I really respect Sluiter and also Sjeng.

Yeah, truly you can't dislike Sjeng Schalken?

Well I don't like him, actually I often cheer against him. But you can't say "his head has to shrink" coz that for sure is not true.

Re: Slovak Republic vs. The Netherlands

Esp Martin and John.
Martin as he's got his head so big it's gonna burst soon, and John just wasn't nice at the last DC meeting (but apart from the DC John is v nice though ) They were having no respect for the other team whatsoever so that's why i hope this new team will do really well, so maybe the players will start to think and notice they aren't that amazing anymore and see there are other players who can play better. So that next time they will be nicer.

OMG my english is total crap today
I hope my point comes across

Aaargh! I order you to watch his 2002 USO open quarterfinal against Fernando Gonzalez 5 times in a row!

Everybody their own taste, I guess. I'm sure Marco Chiudinelli is a great tennis player too!

Re: Slovak Republic vs. The Netherlands

Well John didn't play that often in the Dutch DC team and about Verkerk it is true (or at least I have the same opinion there) but you can't judge a whole team on this! You should've been more specific.

Well I can watch as many matches of him as I want, his best matches... but I just can't cheer for him there's something in his game I dislike, coz I do not really mind him as a person

well he has never reached the top100 so you can't compare his game with Sjeng
