Gildemeister named Chilean Davis Cup captain
SANTIAGO, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chilean Tennis Federation chose former local player Hans Gildemeister as the new captain of the country's Davis Cup team.
Gildemeister will replace Argentine Horacio de la Pena, who left his charge last March, Mario Pakozdi, President of the Chile Tennis Federation told the press.
The official said he talked over the telephone about the selection with members of the Davis Cup team Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu. "They agree and are motivated, as always," said Pakozdi.
"Before Hans arrived in Paris I chatted, and for what I have read in the press, the three of them already agree," he said.
According to Pakozdi, he did not talked about the economic aspect with Gildemeister and ruled out that would be an obstacle.
"I read that Hans does not consider (the economic aspect) a relevant issue, and that obviously facilitates work, which seems good to me," he also said.
The formal appointment of Gildemeister as captain will be made when Nicolas Massu and Fernando Gonzalez are back in Santiago.
