Re: WG 1R: Spain v. Slovak Republic in Slovak Republic

I would like to know who will play for the Spain.

Carlos Moya: "I've known Rafael since he was 10 and day after day he keeps impressing me more and more."
Tommy Haas: "Rafael is a great player. It's amazing how strong, how successful he plays at this age..."
¡Vamos Rafa!

Proud supporter of Tomas Berdych!

Good luck also to:
Tommy Robredo Carlos Moya Fernando Verdasco Pablo Andujar

David Ferrer

Well Ferrero is off the list, so probably Rafa, Robredo, Feli and Nando?

Re: WG 1R: Spain v. Slovak Republic in Slovak Republic

It has been announced today that the team will be: Feliciano Lopez, Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco and Albert Costa. Lopez and Nadal will play singles, and the choices for doubles are: Verdasco-Lopez, Nadal-Costa, Nadal-Verdasco or Nadal-Lopez!

Experienced Costa returns for Spain's Davis Cup defence

Fri Feb 18, 2005 5:51 PM GMT

MADRID, Feb 18 (Reuters) - The experienced Albert Costa has been recalled to Spain's Davis Cup team for their first round tie against Slovakia next month.

The new two-man coaching team of Juan Bautista Avendano and Jordi Arrese drafted in the 29-year-old former French Open winner in the absence of Carlos Moya, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo. They also named Fernando Verdasco for the first time.

Costa was a member of the team that won the Davis Cup for the first time in Barcelona in 2000, but was dropped ahead of the 2003 final against Australia.

"Albert can help bring his experience of the Davis Cup to a good, young team," Avendano told Spain's Radio Marca. "It promises to be a difficult tie, but I believe we can win it.

Rafael Nadal, Feliciano Lopez and Verdasco, who is more used to the faster surface that will be used on the indoor courts in Bratislava, make up the rest of the team for the March 4-6 tie.

Moya withdrew from this season's competition in order to concentrate on playing tournaments after helping Spain to victory in last year's final against the United States.

Ferrero and Robredo asked to be left out of the first round tie in order to regain their form after injury.

"Ferrero wanted to regain his ranking and form by playing individual tournaments, while Tommy is still trying to recover his form after his shoulder injury," said Avedano.

Because I loathe their captains so much, they insulted my 2 spanish big faves last year, you know,it's soooo hurt. After that I cheer against this team. Also I only care for their health, their bodies are not very strong, now I think Tommy and Juan should only concentrate on their Atp matches,it's enough for them.

Re: WG 1R: Spain v. Slovak Republic in Slovak Republic

I still keep thinking that the captains tried to make the best choice for the team to win, and I understood why they prefered Nadal over Ferrero in that moment. Now I guess JC wont play coz he wants to up his ranking, Moya probably is still celebrating the win hehe, Tommy's recovering, Lopez and Nadal seem the best choice also considering the surface. They deserve to play for Spain and win over the slovaks, oh yeah

But you should be loyal to the players, not the coaches!

Tommy Robredo

Fernando Verdasco

Rafael Nadal | Feliciano Lopez | Pablo Andujar | Jeremy Chardy | Simone Bolelli | Marco Chiudinelli

This is so hard for me

I will be happy for either team, but of course I have to support Karol until the end
