Pete Sampras To Play At 2008 SAP Open
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The SAP Open announced today that former two-time SAP Open singles champion and the world’s former top-ranked player Pete Sampras will return to the 2008 SAP Open at HP Pavilion at San Jose to compete in a singles exhibition match against an opponent to be named later. The Sampras exhibition will take place on Monday, February 18 at 7 p.m. and will be the first of several exhibitions Sampras plans to play in 2008 competing against existing ATP tour players.
The SAP Open also announced that up-and-coming American tennis sensation John Isner has accepted a singles wild card and will participate in the 32-man singles field of players. Joining Isner in the singles field of players will be former two-time SAP Open champion and #5-ranked Andy Roddick, Bay Area favorite and #7-ranked James Blake, the #9-ranked player in the world Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and the #10-ranked & world’s former #2 German superstar Tommy Haas. Already entered into the 16-team doubles field of players is the top-ranked doubles team in the world, Americans Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan known internationally as the Bryan Brothers.
James Blake is scheduled to begin his quest for the 2008 SAP Open title on Tuesday, February 19 when he takes center court at HP Pavilion at 7 p.m. Blake’s match will be immediately followed by the first-round doubles match for the Bryan Brothers. On Wednesday, February 20 Andy Roddick will play his first match of the tournament at 7 p.m. followed immediately by Tommy Haas’ first-round match. Opponents in each of these four featured matches will be determined at the SAP Open draw event to be held Friday, February 15, at 12 noon at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose.
