Davydenko pode não ser tão fácil de atrair, principalmente se optar por defender seu país na Copa Davis. A Rússia joga em casa contra a Sérvia, de 8 a 10 de fevereiro, e o Brasil Open tem seu início marcado para o dia 12.

O caso de Safin, porém, é um pouco diferente. Sua a vinda ao Brasil no ano passado bateu na trave. O ex-número 1 do mundo só não veio porque recebeu uma alta proposta financeira para disputar os ATPs de Memphis e Las Vegas, nos Estados Unidos.

Hoje, porém, Safin treina sob a orientação do argentino Hernan Gumy, e deve fazer sua pré-temporada em Buenos Aires. Neste caso, a torcida do Brasil Open é para que o tenista opte por não jogar a Davis e fique na América do Sul para disputar a chamada gira do saibro, que inclui os ATPs de Viña del Mar (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina) e Acapulco (México), além da Costa do Sauípe.

Se a Copa Davis pode atrapalhar na hora de atrair os russos, o contrário acontece com os tenistas espanhóis. O país de Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moyá & Cia. joga a primeira rodada do Grupo Mundial no Peru, e a proximidade geográfica pode fazer com que os melhores do país fiquem no continente. Daí o interesse por David Ferrer, número 7 do mundo. O tenista já esteve aqui em 2004 e 2005 e pode muito bem voltar a participar.

I can't picture Murray here, he's got Rotterdam the following week
