Re: S1 - Week 12 – Wimbledon – London (GS)

Meligeni finally wins on grass!

London (ENG) - The practice time with Vilas worked out! Number 1 in the world Fernando Meligeni finally won a match in the grass season, after 3 frustrating attempts.

In a weird game against Mischa Zverev, the Brasil heroe did a miracle to reach quarter-finals: He was down 6-3 1-6 2-6 and 3-5 in the fourth set, with Zverev serving. Suddenly, Meligeni played extremely well and broke back to love. Then he started playing the way he hadn't done before in the grass season: won the set in the tiebreak and easily won the deciding one, 6-2

"Wow, what a match! I have to confess, i didn't think i could win this one. When he was serving 5-3 to close the match i was really disapointed. For me, it was a luck shot. I did a great return winner and he made a double fault. So I started to believe in it and things worked out. I'm so glad, first thing i did was to hug my coach Ricardo Acioly, and then i looked at Vilas in the crowd, we smiled instantly at the same time. Let's see if i can beat Feña now, but seeing the result of his match i don't think it will happen. But let's try!", said Fininho, who faces Fernando Gonzalez now. In their only meeting, Meligeni won, curiosuly in a Grand Slam. It was in the Round of 16 of Australian Open. Meligeni closed that match in 5 sets, 3-6 6-4 6-4 3-6 7-5.

Re: S1 - Week 12 – Wimbledon – London (GS)

After another first round defeat, this time at his home tournament in Wimbledon, Tim Henman announced his retirement today.

"I just can't compete with the young guns. After this newly and disappointing loss here in Wimbledon, I decided to end my FMTL career. I also want to thank here the great FMTL federation boss Rik who does a great job and want to wish him good luck with managing. Also good luck to the other players for the rest of their careers."

Tim waved a last goodbye to his fans on Centre Court.
