Fourth Seed Out

Sydney, AUSTRALIA-- Novak Djokovic is out of the Sydney Masters after a four set loss 6-3 2-6 7-5 6-3 to Juan Ignacio Chela in the quarter finals. The Serb didn't start too well losing his first service game and then losing the first set. In the second he picked up his game and took the second set to level it. The third was tight but Chela picked up his game to a new level and rushed through the last set. "I'm very disappointed. I have been playing well the last two weeks and I knew I could go further, it's disappointing, but a loss is a loss. He played very well today in the more important areas and deserved the match. I will take some good points from this week, I had a tough match yesterday and was able to take it in a tiebreak, so that will definitely stick with me. a quarter final is OK, but I should have gotten further, but it's only the start of the year."

All was not lost for the 20 year old as he teamed up with Swiss Roger Federer, the number one seeds, to beat Rafael Nadal and Potito Starace in straight sets 6-1 6-2 6-4. The pair showed their power and fantastic skills as they broke Starace's serve on numerous occasions. "This picked me up after my singles loss. Roger and I played well, we didn't lose serve at all which is always good. This is a our first tournament together, and to get to the semis is great. I'm sure we can go further. Kafelnikov and Youzhny are a good pair and I'm sure it will be a tough match."

Djokovic and Federer take to the court tomorrow first after the singles semi finals matches. “We will be ready for it. We practised this morning before our matches and I’m sure we will tomorrow.”

Fernando Meligeni is on fire now!!! Today he defeated Jarkko Nieminen in another 5-set match! "Vamos! I'm so happy with this win, i think i'll buy a ship every start of the year! My practicing there is giving immediate results!!!"

Another time, Fino won the first 2 sets and let the opponent win the 3rd and 4th ones. But he dominated Jarkko in the last set, with a 6-2 win and the passport to the semi-finals guaranteed

VAMOS FININHOOOOOOOOOOO

6th Seed Safely Through

6th Seeded Argentine Juan Igancio Chela has advanced to the seimfinals of the Medibank International, defeating 4th seed Novak Djokovic in four solid sets. The well played match saw Chela dig himself out of numerous holes. The most important being the third set in which Chela was able to win six of the final seven games of the set after being down 4-1 to take it 7-5. It was a clear turning point in the match as the two warriors had battled to a set apiece in the the first two. Chela secured an early break in the 4th and final set, and stayed strong to finish out the match. In the post match press conference, Chela was clearly delighted to reach the semifinals of just the second tournament of the year, but also stated he knows he must raise his game if he wishes to take the title.

Next up for Chela is the always streaky American Jan-Michael Gambill, who surprised and excitied fans in his thrilling five set win over second seed Goran Ivanisevic, in which one can truly say the three faces of Goran were shown, but that bad Goran prevailed in the end, not winning a point in either of the final two tiebreaks.
