Auckland, NEW ZEALAND-- Novak Djokovic is through to the semis of the Heineken Open in Auckland. The 20 year old beat Flavio Saretta, in a five set thriller 4-6 7-6(5) 5-7 7-5 6-3 on Thursday. It was a tough match for both players, each playing fantastically and there was barely anything between them until the ends of most sets when one of them took there chances and was able to break. That all changed in the final set when Djokovic won the final 12 points of the mach to take it. "It was a tough match for me. He just kept fighting, there was nothing in it until the end when I was able to win the three games easily for the match."
The Heineken Open is the first event of the FMTL season and the first event of Djokovic's career. "It's great to get to a semi in my first event of the season. I'm very happy, and I know I can go further. I will be in the top 5 after this event, and I would love to keep that up, to get a top 4 seed for the Australian Open."
Next up for the Serbian is Juan Carlos Ferrero tomorrow morning, "JC is a good player, I seen the end of his match and he can play well, but I noticed some weaknesses and I will work on that." Because of the rain delays today the final will also be tomorrow, and if Djokovic survives the Spaniard, he will either face Goran Ivanisevic or Roger Federer. "I know Roger very well, once the doubles start I will be playing doubles with him. It would be great to play him in the final, an awesome opportunity for me."
