Fish falls to unseeded Baghdatis
MELBOURNE, Australia -- Unseeded Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus has knocked No. 23 Mardy Fish out of the Australian Open in the third round.
While the 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 victory over the American serve-and-volleyer looks like an upset, Baghdatis is a former top 10 player who is coming back from wrist and back injuries that limited him to 12 tournaments last year and dropped his ranking to its current No. 99.
The match didn't end until 1:13 a.m. Saturday, though that's hardly late for Baghdatis. Last year, he lost a five-setter in Melbourne against Lleyton Hewitt that finished at 4:34 a.m.
Baghdatis is trying to replicate his 2006 breakout performance at the Australian Open, when he lost to Federer in the final.
