Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

I say go for it when I posted about it in the kitzi fitd thread there was no real reaction either way, i haven't seen any convincing argument in favor of keeping the old scoring system around anymore, the only thing is that obviously all managers have to start using the new system at the same time, we can't be having Queens on the old system and Halle on the new system, also you gotta make sure the points-per-round are clearly posted or you're gonna get people all up in arms that they didn't get the correct points for their correct picks.

so if anybody cares what I think, I say fuck it

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

I really don't mind either. Everyone should be on board with this before we start though. Just make sure everyone knows about it and no one is against the change.

I don't get the new system? Can somebody explain that to me..and do I need to apply the new scoring system this week in Halle?

Right, the new system awards points to each pick you have like the ATP does, depending on how far they get in a tournament. For examples, in Halle, you currently award points according to.....

R32 - 20
R16 - 45
QF - 90
SF - 150
F - 250

That means, that say you correctly pick Federer as the tournament winner, you receive not only 250 points for his final win, but also 150, 90, 45 and 20 for his other match wins.

The new system proposes to be more in line with the ATP so that you receive the amount of points the player gets in real life. For example, predicting a federer tournament win would earn you 250 points, not 565 points.

This allows better weighting towards tough predictions in earlier rounds, and means you can't come top 10 in FITD just because you picked the winner correctly over someone who had for example, all quarter finalists correct compare to your 1 quarter finalist.

The Points for Halle would change to....

R32 - 20
R16 - 25
QF - 45
SF - 60
F - 100

Does that make sense? I.e. If Fed makes the final against Djokovic, that match is worth 100 points more to each player who picked either Fed or Djoko, rather than an extra 250 points.

Hope that makes sense, let me know if you are going to implement it.

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

What's my points system for the 56 player draw? Identical to the ATP points yes?

R1- 10
R2- 20
R3- 45
QF - 90
SF- 150
F- 250

Or in the new system

R1- 10
R2- 10
R3- 25
QF- 45
SF- 60
F- 100

New system is soooo much better.

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

For the record, I am still against doing changing it mid-season. If everyone else is adamant about doing it now (meaning next week, not this one since the tournies have already started), then I will go along.

Why not this week? It makes no difference if we change it now, it's still the first round

Frankly you have no good reason other than aversion to change as far as I can tell.

I already told you I have no problem changing it next year, but every game on MTF does rule changes largely at the end of year, not mid-season.

As for this week, once the matches have started and no decision is made, I believe it is incredibly wrong to change the scoring system, particularly as players have made selections with the current scoring system in mind.

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

But it doesn't affect anything and it improves the quality of the game IMMENSELY! What's not to like? I really don't get the problem with changing it.

After all, it's a game on a website, not a sport with a governing body or whatever. And saying that all other games don't change mid-season is not an argument.

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

I definitely don't think this week's tournaments should be on the new system cuz they've already started but I really don't see why new system shouldn't start next week, this isn't some huge monstrous change that's going to shake the FITD establishment to its very core, it's just an adjustment of points awarded for correct picks, speaking as someone who's played FITD every week for well over a year now, it's not going to change the way I do my draw plus frankly based on the total absence of any kind of feedback from the players I don't even know if anyone's paying any attention.

I agree, but to be honest this is as much a reason not to change it as a reason to change it. No one outside a couple people really seem to be upset at the current scoring system, so waiting until January isn't really killing anyone.

Re: 2009 FITD Management Thread

yeah, i guess it just bugs me knowing that the new scoring is such a better metric, i don't see the point in continuing with the relatively arbitrary old system, like... why not just switch? but whatever
