He's ranked 25 in the race now so I don't know if it's possible.
Maybe if he wins Lyon and all other tournaments he has entered!

Anyway I'm not sure how much he wants to travel to China. That was great last year, how he qualified by winning the last tournament of the season and then surprising everybody reaching the Masters final but at least it was in Australia, like the Davis Cup final.

This year I think he'll be happy to get a rest and good practice for the Davis Cup and let Kafel and Marat tire themselves in Shanghai.

ohhh that's true...he played really bad during DC, Adidas and then didn't play too well in Aussie Open either so maybe a rest will do him good. Nah but he's 8th on the entry system so if he does better in the following tournaments than last year, then shouldn't his ranking be higher than last year....

He's 25 in the race (better after this week I guess) and that's what matters for going to Shanghai or not.

Apart from that, you're right that the entry ranking is more important and being 8th is great but he is going to lose his points from Paris (unless he wins it again but nobody has won this tournament 2 years in a row). On the other hand, if he does well in Lyon, Madrid, St Petersburg, he should stay in the top 10 or even improve his ranking (? I'm no point specialist).

he'll lose many points from Masters Cup so he really must do well in Lyon,Madrid and St Petersburg if he wants to stay in top 10 at the end of this year.

ALLEZ SEBASTIEN,U CAN DO IT!!!!

hey but doesnt the champions race and entry system end up being the same by the end of the year? i'm not going to try and figure it out i'll just see what happens!

if he's at 8th on the entry system but doesnt make it to the masters cup can he finish lower than 8th after the masters cup??

1. I had forgotten about that. Of course the 2 rankings are supposed be the same at the end of the year.

That means the big difference between 25 and 8 comes from the points of winning the Paris TMS and being runner-up at the Masters Cup. That's a lot of points to defend and even if he improves his race ranking in the next weeks, his entry ranking is going to fall so that they finally coincide.
The good news is that last year he did not do much in Lyon, Stuttgart and Stockholm so he can grab some good points there before trying to defend his title.

2. Like Val said. Whatever his entry ranking before the Masters Cup, it should be lower after because he will lose his points from last year.

I think I'm going to start a ranking thread in his forum!
