Tennis Tipping # 53 ~ Bucharest -> Congrats to Ria and adeegee!./Tytta!.

Tennis Tipping - Bucharest

Welcome to the beautiful capital of Romania!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Tennis Tipping?

In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different participant and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format and your scores are combined.

Note:

- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker will decide who moves on to the next round.
New tie-break method: 2007 TT TB Method

- In case a player (i.e. the actual ATP Player) retires in a match, this match will be counted as long as one point has been played. If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. You can only play one tournament per week. Entries will be based on ranking. Everyone can commit.

Please read this post for more information
Tennis Tipping 2009 Rules Thread (out of date - use 2013 Rules)

How to send in picks:

Picks can be sent in as soon as the draws are ready. Remember, you pick a winner in every match! Picks should be sent by PM, so that your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: [TT: Bucharest, day #]. Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play each day. If you're still in both singles & doubles, you use the same tips for both. For doubles, you still tip the ATP singles matches, not the doubles! No changes can be made after the play has started. If the board goes down as has happened before, send your picks to adeegee2k@yahoo.com

Good luck

Re: Tennis Tipping # 53 ~ Bucharest -> Commit now, free accomodation with Deea and Al

Adam's Daily TT Commentary

Day 7 - Sunday

Ria (who had dyed her hair in the colours of the Romania flag) claimed the Bucharest title after coming from behind to defeat Gutturnio D.O.C. in a closely fought final. Having been slightly unsettled early on by the rowdy support from the many Albanians in the crowd, Ria slowly began to find her form, using her rather unusually long arms to produce some incredible retrieves, and came through strongly towards the end to seal the win which will take her soaring into the top 50 for the first time in her career when the new rankings are released tomorrow. It continues a remarkable run of results in tournaments which this column is in use, and we look forward to seeing her again in the lovely town of Shrewsbury in a short while. The Italian Stallion was gracious in defeat, praising his opponent and thanking his Albanian contingent for their support and inviting them into the locker room to share his favourite bottle of wine.

adeedenko!./Tytta claimed their 2nd consecutive title, defeating keqtqiadv/scythe19pro in a thrilling doubles final. The win was sadly overshadowed by the ongoing "match-fixing" row, and it seems even Tytta!. has begun to believe the stories and has lost faith in her partner. Despite publicly supporting adeedenko!. against the allegations, she has ended the partnership and gone back to her twin Deboogle!. For keqtqiadv/scythe19pro, the dream of winning their home title wasn't to be but it was an impressive tournament nevertheless, and they look in a decent position to qualify for the end of season WTF. They did seem to be having a slight lovers tiff afterwards however, with scythe19pro seemingly unhappy with her partner for his choice of tactics in the final.

That's all for me from this year folks, I hope you all enjoyed the coverage of TT Bucharest.

Day 5 - Friday

As a result of today's rather unexciting singles Semi Finals, we will be previewing the final rather than looking back on today's action.

Ria

Route to the final:
R1: def Allez-Alejo 10-7
R2: def keqtqiadv 4-3
QF: def savestheday91 4-4 (SR1)
SF: def Foosimoo 3-3 (PTS1)
Correct picks ---> 21/32 = 65.6%
TT ranking: 54
Match odds: 11/10 (1.10)

vs.

Gutturnio D.O.C.

Route to the final:
R1: def qczi 8-8 (SR1)
R2: def Tytta 3-3 (SR2)
QF: def propaganda 5-3
SF: def Pigpen Stinks 3-3 (SR1)
Correct picks ---> 19/32 = 59.4%
TT ranking: 48
Match odds: 4/6 (0.66)

With many of the big names exiting Bucharest early, we are left with the intriguing prospect of 2 lesser known names in TT battling it out for the title. With just 6 places separating them in the rankings, it is impossible to call, with Ria shading it in terms of experience but the up and coming Gutturnio possessing all the talent in the world. Experts at the tournament have commented that Ria has looked the better during the course of the tournament, with Deea, Alekutza and Sandra all predicting a victory for the 'Monsta from Malta'. However, Iza has thrown her support being 'The Italian Stallion' Gutturnio D.O.C. having been charmed by the youngster when she went up to him and asked for a photo with him.

In the doubles final, adeedenko!./Tytta!. resume their rivalry against scythe19pro/keqtqiadv after both came through their semi final matches unscathed. The match has the potential to be a classic, with both teams knowing their opponents and their tactics well, with the added spice of it being adeedenko!./Tytta!.'s last match as a partnership, whereas scythe19pro and keqtqiadv look set to spend the rest of their lives together (keqtqiadv was seen in shopping for an engagement ring yesterday). Sadly, the match has still been overshadowed by suspected match fixing, with Betfair refusing to offer odds on the match.

Day 4 - Thursday

American qualifier Pigpen Stinks stole the show on Quarter Final day in Bucharest, disproving the theory that his nation can't play on clay by crushing guille&tati4life in a surprising upset. Having made an instant impression off the court in the city, he is now beginning to also produce the goods on the court as he took advantage of an understandly lacklustre display from his opponent, who had been partying into the early hours of the morning after his beloved Scotland defeated France. Pigpen can sympathise, he has lost many matches due to his liking of strip joints, though if he continues in this rich vein of form he'll have women turning up on his doorstep rather than the other way around. Pigpen will face youngster Gutturnio D.O.C. for a spot in the final after the Italian, cheered on by his large Albanian fanbase defeated Bulgarian propaganda. This column noted many months ago in Casablanca that Gutturnio had a lot of potential, predicting a top 50 spot in the near future and he is currently sitting at #48 in the rankings. We would like to take it a step further and predict a top 20 position before the end of the year.

In the top half, Ria (the most famous thing to come out of Malta since Maltesers) edged out savestheday91 in a tight affair, defying the tag of "doubles specialist" which has been placed on her. It leaves the Serbian free to begin putting her focus towards the huge Davis Cup tie next week, as well as the upcoming court case she has coming up, where she has been accused of conspiracy to spike a fellow Tennis Tipper's drink before a match. Ria now faces Foosimoo who triumped in a bad blooded "Battle Of Belgium" against long term rival freesbee. Clearly intending to wind her opponent up, freesbee shouted "allez" in an annoying voice whenever she hit a winner before glaring down the court at her opponent. Although clearly wound up, Foosimoo let his Tennis Tipping do the talking and waited until after the match before hitting out at his opponent, claiming she was receiving on court coaching from SloKid, and blasted "this cheating has got to stop".

In the doubles event, top seeds invu2day/bavaria100 were beaten by adeedenko/Tytta!. as rumours persist about the authenticity of mathes involving adeedenko, with Jaap reportedly having written an email to the TT board demanding he is banned for life. savestheday91/TommyB. set up the dream Semi Final after easing past propaganda/superhoops who seemed to be lacking in harmony, with superhoops blaming his partner for the defeat. Scala/Siders put a smile back on the faces of French sports fans with a stunningly brave performance to crush east_players/Mara_M, despite not having permission from Mara for them to win. keqtqiadv/scythe19pro kept hopes alive of a home winner after ruthlessly defeating risktaking duo ExcaliburII/GustavoM_Fan in a match which will go down in the history books. GustavoM_Fan broke the world record for number of excuses during a match, overtaking the previous record of 'The Fedtards' after a defeat for Federer. The long list of complaints included 'the lighting being bad, the wind was strong, the opponents didn't make any unforced errors, the scoring system is unfair, FiBeR distracting him, the clay being red, his racquet being strung at the wrong tension, him being disappointed about Marcaccio being crap, the balls being heavy, the line calls going against him, his towel being dirty, his water not being cold enough, his opponents taking too long between points and specators' mobile phones going off during the match'.

Day 2 - Tuesday

The big names continued to tumble on a blustery day in Bucharest which made playing conditions tough, and the tournament is now left with no seeded player in the singles draw.

Top seed and tournament favourite keqtqiadv's luck finally ran out as he was surprisingly beaten by doubles specialist Ria. It was thought that if anyone could end the "curse of the TT #1" it was the mighty Brasilian, though it seems not even he is strong enough to overpower the jinx. However, his luck hasn't run out quite yet as he was still able to use it to his advantage in the doubles event, saving a match point to reach the Quarter Final with his fiance scythe19pro. Despite reports in the press yesterday that they had in fact had a secret wedding after the US Open, scythe19pro denied these stories in her press conference after her singles loss yesterday. We apologise for any distress caused to both. Ria goes on to face clay court master savestheday91, who once again produced her best form on the European clay. With Davis Cup just round the corner, it is an expected improvement in form by the Serb, and her mother has recently commented that she feels her daughter is better than current #1 keqtqiadv, the only thing she lacks is experience.

6th seed adeegee!. was the next to fall, as he was beaten in one of the worst matches ever witnessed on a TT court by freesbee. In an encounter not even worthy of the space I'm writing this, it was the Spaniard who edged through to set up a grudge encounter with Foosimoo. The Belgiun midget defeated Aguante_el_Gato in a high quality match, leaving us with the mouth watering prospect of a match between the pair who have been at loggerheads ever since freesbee's decision to leave Belgium and represent Spain in Davis Cup competition, a decision which infuriated Foosimoo and he has been unable to forgive her since.

In the bottom half, qualifier Pigpen Stinks continues to leave his mark on the tournament as he ousted Aussie Open champion east_players, a result which is sure to leave the strip clubs in Bucharest rubbing their hands with glee as it enables him to resume his $2000 a night ventures into them. He now squares off against guille&tati4life after the Scotman battled his way past Tomek. in a topsy turvy match. Lucky loser Tytta!. was so disappointed by her partner's display during the match before hers that she was unable to produce her best Tennis Tipping herself, and crashed out to Gutturnio D.O.C. The Italian now faces propaganda, the in-form player at the Romanian Open as he continued to impress with a crushing victory over balding Croatian Superior1.

Day 1 - Monday

The tournament got off to a dreadful start for organisers when home hope and no.2 seed scythe19pro was dumped out the tournament early on the opening day by Croatian Superior1, leaving no Romanians left in the singles draw. Despite coming into the tournament in some good form, the large crowd were unable to inspire the young Jedi and she was well below her best, although as always was gracious in defeat and praised her opponent admirably.

3rd seed GustavoM_Fan was another seed to fall on a bad day for the big names, as he slumped to a disappointing loss to Foosimoo. The Argentinian, who has proposed more changes to Tennis Tipping than even Ettiene De Villiers has on the ATP tour is currently experiencing a slump in form, and hasn't progressed past the 2nd round since Cincinnati. Many fans of his are growing increasingly frustrated by his inability to concentrate on the game, labelling him 'the Ivan Ljubicic of Tennis Tipping' due to his tiresome moaning, as he seems more willing to come up with new ideas to revolutionalise the sport rather than improve his performances. 7th seed qczi was a further seeded casualty, as he was unable to overcome the fatigue, jetlag, and disappointment from losing the US Open final yesterday and was edged out by young Italian Gutturnio D.O.C.

Top seed keqtqiadv solidified his position as the luckiest player in TT, winning his 734th career match decided by SRs. The world #1 needed all his experience to squeeze past Caralimon, and will now be backed by the majority of the Romanian fans who have given him the nickname 'Multumesc Muri' after his marriage to scythe19pro gave them their first ever TT #1 ranked player (he holds a Romanian citizenship). 6th seed adeegee!. who has close links with the tournament organiser produced a startlingly good performance, crushing fabulous although rumours are beginning to circulate after Betfair voided the match, saying suspicious betting patterns were involved.

Tytta!. who only entered the draw thanks to a lucky loser spot took full advantage of her fortune as she produced a flawless display to beat Germany's bavaria100 in a high quality encounter. Tytta!. is lucky in more ways than one, as she has the spot every woman in TT wants by being partnered with adeegee!. for the the doubles event. bavaria100 sadly hinted at a possible imminent retirement from Tennis Tipping as she was becoming increasingly unhappy with her displays, though this commentator can only encourage her to keep going as there were signs of a return to form today. In other matches, Scotsman guille&tati4life battled past Strangelove though it didn't prevent him being on the end of a severe roasting from Alekutza who said he was putting her off during her doubles match, and 4th seeded Tomek. ousted Slokid in a match more fitting for WTA TT.
