This is what I meant!

After some grumbling to the chair umpire, Roddick, who was facing a 15-40 deficit, reeled off five aces (three after deuce) to win the game and quash the upset bid, to the delight of most of the announced 7,396 fans at the evening session.

``Channeled my frustration,'' Roddick said of the match's crucial moment. ``I won't comment on the line call, but I definitely was taking some bigger cuts after that.''

Twelve of Roddick's 16 aces -- including a tournament-best 143 mph scorcher -- followed the disputed call. He also twice broke Rochus' serve during that stretch.

That's what I keep saying he needs to do when he gets pissed off... maybe he's finally growing into being able to do that consistently, I hope so!

Re: This is what I meant!

he just needs to start shrugging these crap line calls off. i mean his serve will win him the point, no doubt. but Andy's said his head needs to be clear of thought to hit his good serves. imo he thinks about things a little to long. also if he had bp chances and ends up losing the game, he often finds himself in a little bit of trouble in the next game when he's serving

Re: This is what I meant!

Well that would be the ultimate goal but I don't think Andy is capable of shrugging off line calls, not yet anyway. He's gotta work towards that and I think the first step is using the anger/annoyed feelings to push him, not distract him. So, I was very happy when I read that

Re: This is what I meant!

I noticed that at DC---when he was angry with himself, he would blast an ace or use his devastating forehand immediately after.

Which is all well and good but it's far too easy for his opponents to read. "Ut oh, Andy's pissed, I better get ready for one of his blistering forehands..."

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Re: This is what I meant!

except that the vast majority of players on tour have a tough time dealing with Andy's blistering forehands

Plus I'd rather have him hit an anticipated killer forehand than a double fault or bad error like he usually does when he gets mad. It's all relative, I suppose!

yea he needs to do it more often cuz it doesn't get any easier with when playing against the top players. you only have so little chances
