Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.

First of all, can I get a for this thread! On to some spelling/grammar mistakes...

A recent one I've been seeing:

Quote:
Low and behold...
*eyes bleed* it's Lo and behold.
Quote:
lo Pronunciation (l)
interj.
Used to attract attention or to show surprise.
[Middle English, from Old English ]
Another one:

Quote:
Existance, penitance, any other word that *actually* ends in -ence
Here's what you get:

Quote:
Word not found in the Dictionary and Encyclopedia. Did you mean: (word ending in -ence).
What hurts the most is that a lot of these mistakes are made by native english speakers. Fluent non-native speakers seem to have more problems with syntax than spelling.

Emotions of a Safin fan

I smell bagels!!! Lots of them!!!

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.

Nice thread.

It is interesting that I make very few spelling or grammatical errors when I post or email but I make a ton when I chat. Anyone else have the same problem?

Need ideas for a new signature...

Sure, that makes sense, because you're just typing and sending as fast as you can With posts and whatnot, you at least have the time to check first

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.

Are we allowed to shame Deb, Nat and Brian in here?

I often see grammatical errors from you three. You won't catch me out.

Adam, please read where it clearly states capitalization is not counted. Thank you And while I'm at it, neither does punctuation (except for the beloved apostrophe!)

Re: Deb, Nat, and Brian's Thread of Grammar Shame.

The apostrophe is sacred, and shall not be omitted!

It was not long ago that I was a disgrace. I had turned my back on grammar, but grammar never turned its back on me. And for that, I am grateful.
