The Andy moment...

....that made you proud to be an Andy fan

(yea I'm stealing Q's great idea for good conversation topics)

For me hands down, the way Andy dealt with the Ljubicic stuff at the USO.... pure class and maturity.

His bowing together with Younes and applauding for him after their epic match.

Also his positive comments about other players.

I would say his interviews where he is unfailingly polite, gracious, funny, and humble.

Re: The Andy moment...

yes definitely... the Younes match was just so special all around.

and I LOVE how he always finds something nice to say.... no matter how upset or disappointed he is. Again, true class.

That's the reason that I'm his fan, Bunk. If he was a jerk in his interviews, I couldn't overlook some of the other things he does that I don't care for. And, I've never been a fan of big servers, so I can't really get off on that aspect of his game either even though I do respect it.

Re: The Andy moment...

lol I'm just teasing.... plus, I wanted to bump my thread

How he handles himself in interviews is one of the big reasons I like him too, for sure!!! As I've said many times before, he and I have the same sarcastic sense of humor so he cracks me up and I like anyone who makes me laugh

I guess I was more thinking about one moment where I was just really blown away and was like "wow, I am really proud to be a fan," and for me, that's why I said the Ljubicic thing. Obviously I was happy to be a fan of his the two years before then too lol but that just made my mouth drop.

Re: The Andy moment...

I don't think there's one particular moment in that respect. I like his personality on court (and off court as well). That supports my liking of him each time. It's more of a continous thing.

If it's just one moment though, I'd choose winning the U.S. Open. Not because I'm only fans of players that win...but I was really glad he finally achieved his dream. It was relieving.

I don't know if I made sense with this post.

OK, I'll say something other than his usual wit and class in interviews!

I will say that I have been very impressed and proud of him whenever he removes his cap to shake hands with a fellow tennis player he respects (he famously did this for Pete Sampras and he's also done it for Andre Agassi....I don't know who else he's removed his cap for).

Showing respect by removing the cap is just not done these days and for a young guy like Roddick to do so is very impressive indeed!

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!

You know what's amazing to me? The fact that Andy knew, at the age of THREE, that he wanted to be a tennis player, and that he knew he would be very good at it. (signing autographs for his family at the age of SEVEN!)

Think about it: how many of us wander through our lives "finding ourselves", switching careers, switching partners, never finding the yin to our yang, not quite knowing what we should be doing with our lives . . . and yet some people are lucky enough to have been gifted with the knowledge of knowing exactly what they were destined for.

Makes me wonder if maybe we are all born with that gift but some are just more in tuned to it than others?

All right, I'm getting too deep for the day after New Year's . . .

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!
