Re: The "injuries still suck" RG thread

I feel bad for Rafa sometimes because I get the feeling that the tennis media is against him; that they resent him for being such a pain in Roger's ass and raining on his parade. You could hear the disappointment in Mary Carillo's voice throughout the final--they all kept talking about Roger's missed chance of his slam and didn't really focus much on Rafa's great playing or the fact that this 20 year old managed to defend his title against the best player in the world.

Carillo has always been biased towards Roger anyway but listening to her was annoying, esp. when she criticized Rafa's acceptance speech.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I know what you mean about Rafa getting crap sometimes from the press. I think it's all about his game. His game is not a pretty one with many fancy shots. He's a defensive player a la Lleyton Hewitt only with more physicality and it must bother them to see someone with that type of game be so effective at beating Roger.

Anyways, watching Rafa cry is very cute although I do feel bad for Roger. Judging from his interview he knew he didn't play his best. It's so hard because I like them both !

Re: The "injuries still suck" RG thread

Disappointing match by Fed - he looked defeated after he got broken early in the 2nd set, it's just sad for a man of his stature. Even when he broke back when Nadal was serving for the match, it didn't look like there's a momentum swing... Oh well...

I was leaning towards a Federer win today. I like to see history made when someone worked hard and achieve something - not by being the youngest/oldest to achieve something... Oh well... Glad that the clay season is finally over

I actually felt sad that Roger lost. I miss his speech. Did he do it in french?I did dream last night that he lost, but my dream was cololer since I was sitting between Chris Cornell and the new lead singer from INXS.

I just can't believe that Roger actually felt like he was close to winning, that or he didn't mean literally what he said to Bud.........

I don't know. Everytime I lose, I used to say the same thing just to convince myself that it was ok.

I think it must be hard for players to do these interviews after such a heartbreaking loss because they are still processing the match themselves.

Re: The "injuries still suck" RG thread

I've actually been able to watch RG on TV for the first time this year and after a lot of the matches there's a reporter sticking a microphone into the face of the loser while they're signing autographs. It seems pretty harsh when it's literally only 20-30 seconds after they've lost a match and it seems pretty pointless - they're hardly going to be able to say anything constructive or insightful and it seems to just make a lot of players come across as slightly bad losers because they haven't had time to adjust to the disappointment.

Re: The "injuries still suck" RG thread

You guys are right, however, it's a part of their sport (and all sport in general, the losers in almost every sport give press conferences right afterwards).... not that you can ever really get used to something like that because you are in the heat of the disappointment. But some players simply handle it better than others. Maybe it just happens so infrequently to Roger that he's worse at it than most Not that he's an ungracious loser because he didn't say anything like that at all, but yeah, maybe I'm biased. Compare Andy's on-court interview with Sue Barker 2 years ago to the one Roger gave to Bud today.... no comparison

Re: The "injuries still suck" RG thread

Yeah, Andy's great at the 'I-just-lost-a-tough-match' interviews. Maybe I just don't get to see enough tennis but it just seems at RG that they're very quick to jump on the loser.

Yes, I was surprised at this. The commentators seemed positively deflated! Rafa was making history too, you know!

i kept thinking, Roger is learning what it's like to be his boyfriend...Andy.

beautiful loser syndrome i believe.
they both go into this "hawt" coma and just stand there with their 2nd place plate, staring off in an empty yet still calculating manner.
