I found this post from another site, and thought it interesting to post here too.
A long time ago, when Andy used to post on an unofficial website, someone posted something very disparaging about Jim Courier, saying he lacked talent and just got lucky to win 4 slams. Andy normally wouldn't respond directly to posts, but he took that one head-on, in May 2001. Here it is, as I think it's very appropo this discussion:

I read this post and was astounded. i know that i normally don't write in with opinions on anything, but i have to step in here. jim courier is a 4 time grand slam champion and was number one in the world for the better part of two years. now to make a statement like that about a great champion is unbeleviable and doesn't show much knowledge about the game. i think it is especially sad to rip someone who was so loyal to his country in participating in davis cup and other forms of team compeptition. it seems as if u enjoy ripping people unjustly. it might be true that courier was not a naturally gifted as agassi and sampras or some other players but that makes his accomplishments even more impressive. anyways to everyone in the club hello and i hope all is well. i am in athens GA right now with my brother and will be in new york for couple days before going home. talk to u guys soon
sincerely, andy roddick
I'm a huge Jim Courier fan, and I really liked what Andy said about his accomplisments being even more impressive given what he had to do to get them. Perhaps the same can be said of Andy, too, although I think he's more talented than many of you give him credit for.
Boy, this was a blast from the past. Always nice to talk about Jim Courier, though.
I agree with the poster and I agree with Andy. I wished I could have seen Courier during his prime.
It's also cool to see Andy posting in threads (non-journal updates), even though it's from awhile ago.
