Smile Andy and the Olympics

I have a question about professional athletes in the Olympics: would Andy be eligible to partake in either the 2004 or 2008 summer Olympics? What criteria would he need to make in order to do this?

Seeing as how Steffi Graff and Andre Agassi bptj have an Olympic gold medal -- and knowing how greedy and competitive Andy is -- I'm curious to see if competing for the Olympic gold will be on his professional agenda.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Re: Andy and the Olympics

He BETTER be at the Olympics!!

The court is the same as the US Open court - he'll have a GREAT chance!!

yup he's eligible, and why the heck wouldn't he be there? the elegibility ruel is the same as WTA is it not (players must have played or have been ready to play a David/Fed cup match the past year, or a match before the actual olympics) and the seeds go by ranking, so Andy will have a really good seed, and possible draw. the olympics is all about representing your country, do we really have to doubt the fact that Andy won't show up?

Re: Andy and the Olympics

I'm really hoping that he will be there. Playing the Olympics is such an honor, and the glory will be shared with everyone in the country.

Re: Andy and the Olympics

The only reason is depending on how they make up the teams. If there's some sort of elimination/Olympic Trials, Andy might have to play against other players/his friends to get a spot. He should do OK and have no problem, but stranger things have happened in an Olympic Trial before.

there isn't a trial, its going by the entry rank, which is what i have said in my previous post. i dont know if they will change it or not, but they always take the best players from each country, mind you they won't take more than one person from a country who only had one tennis star. so Roddick and Agassi are in for sure, dunno if Agassi is gonna play though. then i think 2 from the likes of blake/ginepri/fish/dent

Re: Andy and the Olympics

Time to bring back this old thread.

FYI, Sports Illustrated named their Olympics favorites:

Gold medal - Federer
Silver medal - Roddick
Bronze medal - Moya

Re: Andy and the Olympics

i think that it is very much possible for andy to win the olympics. he has a sense of pride about his country, and he'd want to represent the U.S. well which will motivate him even more to beat Fed.

Re: Andy and the Olympics

I don't think any of the players will take it that seriously. I just don't see them pouring their heart into it. If it means Andy vs. Roger again then atleast I will take it seriously...haha
