Hewitt pulls out of Nasdaq; Agassi to play
By Charles Bricker

Lleyton Hewitt, who would have been seeded second at the Nasdaq-100 Open on Key Biscayne, has withdrawn from the tournament, likely because of injuries to both toes. His representatives did not immediately offer a public statement, but he played with the injuries Sunday in a straight set loss to Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final.

His absence kicks Andy Roddick, the part-time Boca Raton resident, up to No. 2 seed, and that guarantees that Roddick would not have to play No. 1 Roger Federer before the final.

Hewitt's injured toes became a problem midway through the third set of his semifinal match against Roddick at Indian Wells. He said Sunday the right toe was worse than the left.

"It's all inflamed," he said. "Nail is going left, right and center," he said. "It's happened a fair few times in the past, but this is probably as bad as it's been."

Andre Agassi apparently will be at the Nasdaq-100 Open, despite having pulled out of the quarterfinals at Indian Wells on Friday with an inflamed big toe.

An Agassi representative told Nasdaq officials Saturday to expect Agassi's wife, Steffi Graf, and their two children Monday. There was no indication whether Agassi will be with them or come to Key Biscayne later.

The tournament begins Wednesday but because Agassi is a seeded player and draws a first-round bye, he would not have to play until Friday or Saturday. He was to have a second MRI Saturday.

Agassi, a former No. 1 currently ranked No. 9, turns 35 next month.

it's not part of the diet; it is enemy food. ie. Marin-ara Cilic.
I also did not eat Curry 'cos it rhymes with Murray.

Andy's draw sucks

http://www.atptennis.com/en/common/T...05/403/MDS.pdf

ummmmm OMG Andy will play Verdasco again in the second round most likely (Nando plays Peter Wessels)

WTF are the odds?

Seeded to meet Nadal in third round, Ljubicic in 4th, Moya again in QF, Marat in SF

Have fun Andy

Good! No slouching around and feeling sorry for himself. Get back on the horse and ride again Andy. You can take out all of these guys.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I guess, but that draw sucks. Miami is slow HC and claycourters play well - Nadal beat Roger here last year let us not forget.

Have fun defending your title

The only way to get back to the top, get his confidence back and respect is by beating good players. How ironic, his nemesis Hewitt is out but he ended up in the strongest draw.

Andre will have an easier time.

I think Andy can do this. Maybe he needs a tough draw to get his confidence up. We were all freaking out when he drew Lee twice in a row earlier this year. I think Andy will do well. *fingers crossed that he's going to Miami right now*

Re: The "Feel the Miami Heat as Andy Defends his Title!" Nasdaq thread

Roger's draw is pretty tough, too. I'd say the 2nd and 3rd quarters are a little softer than the top and bottom ones.

Of course andy CAN do it, if we didn't think he was capable, we probably wouldn't bother supporting him, but it's a tough draw. Nadal is playing a lot better than he did last time Andy beat him at the USO and it was a USO night match. And Ljubicic pushed Roger close once again last week. Andy likes these conditions and is more comfortable in Miami than IW, I think. But still, this is one of the harder draws he could have gotten, IMO.

I'm not worried about Nando as much as I am Nadal and especially Ljubicic.

Re: The "Feel the Miami Heat as Andy Defends his Title!" Nasdaq thread

I'm not saying I'm not worried. I'd be a little worried even if Roger got that draw. No one is unbeatable, but I think Andy will be wanting revenge for two of his last DC losses (Nadal and ITT). I don't think Ivan can keep up at the rate he has been going, but who knows.

Re: The "Feel the Miami Heat as Andy Defends his Title!" Nasdaq thread

I think Ljubicic will start to feel it at some point, too. So much tennis. But his draw to the 4th round is pretty easy - easier than Andy's.

Yes, hopefully he'll be revenge-driven. that seems to be when he does his best. All we can do is hope.
