Unfortunately, because he's defending the title, Lleyton can basically only increase the gap. Lleyton lost in his second match last year and is only defending 35 points. Andy defends 500. So I mean - even at the most extreme level, even if Andy were to defend the title, if Lleyton wins more than 2 matches (say he loses in the 4th round), he would still GAIN points on Andy even though Andy defended his title.

That's why the rankings are so complicated and that's why Andy can't worry about them. He needs to worry about doing well at tournaments and improving his game and his head - when he does all that, the rank will come

Maybe He's a family guy, it will be good for him to be able to spend a little time with them. Hopefully he's there by now, or at least on his way!

I'm watching the Indian Wells final: PMac said Andy was eager to get out of Indian Wells and go to Austin for a few days before Miami.

Austin before Miami? I give up. God forbid getting there a day or two before your two big rivals and get really comfortable and used to the conditions. Crikey.

the boys mad. period.

The Tennis Diet:
On the eve of the Roddick/Cilic match, my brother made Seafood Marinara. Can't eat it,
it's not part of the diet; it is enemy food. ie. Marin-ara Cilic.
I also did not eat Curry 'cos it rhymes with Murray.

I fangirl for Roddickulous, Youzhless and the Djoke.

hahahaha. I'll do that too. I'm only...15 hours away from Miami. Wish I could go and didn't have school.

Andy just needs to hope that he doesn't draw Hewitt or Federer or Safin and hopes that he draws Carlos to win.

He can close the gap in the champions race. In 2003, he earned more than 70% of his race points June or later. (In 2004, it was about 65%). Earning more in the early part of the season could make the difference at the end of the year.

Even if he can't move up in the entry system now, getting a good result in Miami will help him later in the year when Hewitt & Safin have some of their big results from 2004 dropping off.

Safin and Lleyton have a ton more points to defend later on in the year. Safin has two Masters series, and Lleyton has USO final to defend.

QUACK IT LOUD....QUACK IT PROUD!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO: ANDY, HAAS, MARDY, BRYANS, JAMES, DJOKOVIC, MOODIE, ROBBY, MOYA, SAFIN, GICQUEL

Cliffy said that the most competitive match of Indian Wells was Hewitt/Roddick so Andy for causing Lleyton all kinds of problems.

Anyhoo, congratulate me: I finally got my vcash back up above $500

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Just winning a few matches each week during the clay court season could pay off later in the year too if it gets close. Andy has very few points to defend compared to the other guys:

2004 clay court entry points:
Federer 610

Roddick 40
(& at the most a net loss of 10 [-120+110 other best fifth] from Houston)

Hewitt 585

Safin: 525
(& a net loss of 95 [-120+25 other best fifth] from not defending Estoril which he didn't enter this year)
