I watched the match, Andy look incredibly rusty. Nothing terrible or special, looked like he was just working on timing the ball again and stuff. I don't think we're gonna see some new game plan with Larry...hopefully we'll just see better execution. As I've said time and time again, if Andy is playing well from the back of the court...great, if he's serving well he can win titles and beat the big boys.

I agree Ryan totally - they all seem rusty at the moment Nole lost today too - but as they say practice makes perfect and hopefully he will shake the rust off soon.

He seemed rusty, but that's to be expected. I liked some of the things he was doing. His BH return looked good, and his movement was better than it's ever been I think. At least he cared and was into it and had a good energy level, which is more than Novak fans can say.

i agree with Debs that his movement was really really good. and i especially liked the points where he stepped up after a big serve and finished the point with a big fh

Highlights of Andy vs Navarro

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

One criticism I have is that Andy seemed to hit too many balls right down the middle of the court directly to his opponent.

Also, when will Andy ditch that approach shot to his opponent's forehand. It seems like he gets burned every time.

hopefully this was just the fact that he was trying to get the feel for the ball. It was cold in Doha and he hadn't arrived that long before on top of it.

Invariably, when he plays someone with a good backhand.

his matches always seem to be at the one time I can't watch! I'm out tomorrow evening so hopefully it won't be on too late and I can catch it before I go.

Nikolay's gonna pay for that.

"I don't want to be like (Andy) Roddick, who only has big serves going for him."

That seemed like an unnecessary "slam" at Andy -- especially since Andy always spoke in Kolya's defense during the whole match-throwing controversy.

I believe this was Nikolay's overly dry humor at work again. Still, Andy can use it as ammunition the next time they play.

claire posted this funny video of their recent exo on my blog, it seems they get on well.

I hope it was just a good-natured dry humor jab, otherwise... wuuuut, don't just name drop like that. I'm sure everyone could've filled in the blanks easily enough.

...Fool me three times, either I'm kind of stupid or you're really good at this.
