If anyone wants to watch, this blog is broadcasting the match right now. Andy was just yelling at some kids in the crowd. Guess he's moved away from babies and onto more experienced meat.

They were sitting near him and chatting like most school age kids do. He just kinda said, "Hey!!" but it was kinda loud. I'd have been terrified if a big, sweaty man was yelling at me and waving his racket.

EDIT:

"(It is) a good start to the year," said Roddick, who served eight aces. "I am pretty happy with my play. I didn't do anything stupid. I returned well. I got what I wanted from the match. I have been training hard in the off-season."

Re: Andy might be skipping Kooyong, but we can still have the bong AO Season Thread

and more b/c MTF doesn't let me attach more than 4 pics in a post

only two now... i gave up

EDIT:

"Last year I was just going from the training table straight on to the court," Roddick said after reaching the second round of the $1,100,000 Qatar Open.

"I was going to do everything to play Wimbledon and I shouldn't have and I was advised not to; I was hurt in Cincinnati and tried to play LA.

"When you do that you don't have all the options,"
he concluded by way of explanation of how his results fell away after beating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in Dubai in February and Roger Federer in Miami in March.

Roddick believes his injury problems may have been related to not taking a full close season's rest and training programme at the end of 2007.

Now, however, he feels he has taken a better break and done more of the necessary work, and also has high hopes of his relationship with his new coach, Larry Stefanki, formerly with two other world number ones, John McEnroe and Marcelo Rios.

"I've had more time to prepare and it makes a huge difference," Roddick said. "I feel last season was stalled by injury and now I feel better. I thought I made a pretty solid start."

Aww, I remembered the match, but I ended up totally forgetting about it 'cause the times. At least he's doing nicely so far. Come on, Andy! Yay!

...Fool me three times, either I'm kind of stupid or you're really good at this.

Re: Andy might be skipping Kooyong, but we can still have the bong AO Season Thread

Hello, folks! Wanna wish everyone a very Happy New Year! And a common wish for all of us, the Ducknation, to celebrate a big win by Andy this year (coming in a way of a slam or a Masters title!)

I just watched the 2nd set, and maybe I'm too critical, but I've got some mixed feelings about this match. First of all, Navarro heavily underperformed. His serve was disastrous (% was around 30-35...), and his approach & volleying was much worse than it's usually. I didn't like Andy's crapspin which he used quite a few times from his FH side, and his slice BH was shorter and sat up more than usually as well. However, there were a few good things - Andy was finishing off the easy points very smoothly, and his BH volleys were very good and timed almost perfectly.

Anyhow, this 1st match cannot be really viewed as an indicator for the things to come. But the good thing is that Andy looked quite sharp, motivated and hungry to win. All those good signs, of course Best of luck for the rest of the tournament!
