I still haven't seen the match or the interview with Nole but I think I just need to say wow to both events. :retard: Have a lot of catching up to do this weekend. But Andy...really? Didja have to mess this chance up? *sigh* I really wanted at least a Andy vs Roger semi ):

Hey, Andy's comments about Nole weren't nice either even if they were jokes. Shame I wake up to this.

Nole had calmed down by the time he did the press. Apparently they already spoke in the locker room.
USO QF: Djokovic beats Roddick 6-2 6-3 3-6 7-6(5)

As for Andy, where to go? Where to go? Perhaps doing the impossible and beat Spain in Spain? No matter what some of us will still be rooting for you.

I was about to post this. I think this is a case of a big misunderstanding caused by the wonderful media.

he shouldn't have tried to aced himself out of the set while serving 5-4
terrible decision by andy
but overall i think in this open he played the best i've seen him since a long time
minus the first 2 sets against novak of course

what a stupid comment novak made

I suspect that Djokovic's return abilities made Andy feel that he had to keep going for bigger and bigger serves.

That said, this tournament was the best that I have seen Andy play since Rome (or even Miami). He easily could have been out after the Gulbis match. With this tournament performance, Andy remains on track for Shanghai (and most likely will not have the distraction of a Davis Cup final).

Re: The "Andy's Classy Win or Lose & That's Why We Still Love the Loser" Summer HC Th

I have no real idea what happened last night but I'm so disappointed for Andy. I was following the match with just a game by game update (which was torture, I had no idea what was going on ) and as soon as he got broken serving for the 4th I knew it was over. Why couldn't he just serve it out?! I really thought he could do it this time.

As for Nole's comments, I'm going to watch the Youtube video in a bit but I'm not looking forward to it after your comments. I like Nole too and would love to see a Nadal-Nole final but I might have to rethink that once I've seen the video I guess.

Hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Sucks.

Andy let us all down. Nothing unusual.

Garbage play in the first two sets. Epic fail choke at the end.

Rooting for Roger.

We can debate and go back and forth about this that and the other thing. I think Andy said it best in his press conference, so I will leave it at that. I will just say that (besides what Fee pointed out, that he was the one who started this all by proclaiming that his next opponent would be fitter than he is, and the fact that Andy's comments only came after he was asked about it) Andy would never ever do that, especially not to a home crowd. Andy, in fact, is always very cognizant of the home crowd and I remember many times especially in Davis Cup where he has specifically said that he toned down his celebration because of the home crowd. And therein lies the difference between them. After sleeping on it, I maintain what I said last night; if Andy ever did anything like what Novak did last night, I'd drop him like a hot potato. It's easy to apologize after the fact (and frankly, his sincerity is questionable). I'm sure that he and Andy worked it out, because Andy's too mature to let something like that continue, but I'm just glad that Andy always handles himself well after victory and defeat. He may get caught up in it during the match sometimes and I know that's why a lot of people don't like him, but in my opinion when it really matters Andy's one of the classiest guys out there, win or lose.

The player(s) didn't have to buy into that. If they bought into something the media was trying to do, shame on them. I said it beforehand and Andy basically said the same thing himself: anyone with a brain would know Andy was kidding. Novak should have known. If he instead listened to some blowhard like Jon Wertheim pump it up, that's not Andy's fault except maybe he shouldn't try to be funny, and if he did that, I would personally be very sad.

I think that last night's comments show that Djokovic, despite the image conjured by last year's on-court impersonations, lacks a sense of humor or self-deprecation.

This conclusion can hardly be surprising given his parents. Last night, even when Djokovic was up by two sets, they were always grimacing and frowning. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be raised by such angry people and then perform on a public stage.

At least today's women's semifinals matches will feature parents who seem to be always smiling like Oracene Price, Snezana Jankovic and Vera Dementieva.

Novak's comments illustrated the huge maturity chasm between Nadal (only 22) and the other young guns who are only a year or so younger than him (the mopey Murray; the needy Novak; the spoiled Gasquet, etc.) Not even Moses could part an ocean wider between them. Rafa is head and shoulders higher than everybody else, emotionally, physically, and mentally.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."
