He had also never lost a match from being 2-0 sets up before and now he's blessed us with that feat 3 years in a row Maybe he thinks this is a better streak to keep up than winning stuff

Re: ** ROADTRIP! (US Open Series summer hardcourt thread)! **

I've been worried since last year about him defending his points from the summer.

I don't mind him not being top three but I really don't want to see him drop out of the top five. Really is that to much to ask for?

I don't even care about points and ranking, I care about him playing to his capability - in the US on his best surface (I don't care what they say, the really fast low-bouncing US Summer hardcourts are better for him than the slower Wimby grass now). If he plays like he can, then the rest will fall into place. problem is that even since a whole year ago when he hired Jimmy, except for a couple of matches here and there, he STILL hasn't really and truly fixed this crap that keeps creeping up in his game and mentality. It's time

I know.

I think in addition to keeping Jimmy around it's time to get a psychologist to deal with him as well. A few years ago I wouldn't have pulled Andy confidence into question, but now I'm not always sure. One meeting couldn't hurt anyway.

Re: ** ROADTRIP! (US Open Series summer hardcourt thread)! **

Why doesn't Andy do what Djokovic has done and hire a specialist to help with his problem areas like volleying? I think this would be a great idea. He has the money to do it. He has a good team but there's always room for more.

One of the things that's most troubling to me is the fact that Jimmy's magic seems to have warn off too quickly. He has given Andy much-needed confidence but I can see that there is still some work to be done in that area. Andy had it at Cincy, USO, and AO. Haven't seen it since. His playing at Wimbledon was rather lackluster in comparison to how he's looked before. I was hoping Jimmy would be able to light the fire under his ass and it worked for a bit. Now, it feels like we're back to square one.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

Re: ** ROADTRIP! (US Open Series summer hardcourt thread)! **

I don't really see andy making that many technical improvements at this point. His problem, IMO, is not his inadequate volleying, it's his poor approach shots - I don't think he needs a specialist for that because he sometimes hits good ones - he's capable, he just hits those ridiculously stupid crosscourt slices with nothing on them and his shots have too much spin so they are sitting up making for easy passing shots - I don't see how a specialist can help him but I suppose anything is possible. Well I think it's all in Andy's head. He will never be the most talented or technically sound, and that's quite ok. Losing matches from simply being outplayed is one thing, it happens to pretty much all players - even Fed when he plays Rafa on clay - but Andy is just not mentally all there yet. He's better than a year ago, but come on. He's losing too many matches he should be winning and it's really getting absurd

You're right he's not mentally there.

I'm such an advocate of the sports psychologist, gee I wonder why , but I think it would help him and a bunch of other players as well.

we've begged and hoped and pleaded for him to get a sports psychologist here for like, oh, 3 years? I think it's just a lost cause

He needs it though. Badly.

Dumb men. And this is a man thing percentage wise more female tennis players hire one then males. Lucky idiots in team sports that get one provided for them.

yes he does. we used to have a running joke that he and mardy could get one on a group rate - because Mardy might need one even WORSE

le sigh.
