Re: Monday [6/25/07] Order of Play & Scores
1.45pm: Play to start at 2.30pm. Covers coming off, ground staff earning their corn and not for the first time today. Ah, the emails have been pouring in. Thank you to those of you who enjoyed the Roland Garros coverage and have made it across the metaphorical Channel here to SW19. One of my more cynical colleagues has mentioned the fact that all the mails came in while I was out of the office, ostensibly having lunch… I’d never stoop so low as to create fake mail addresses to pretend that I have a fan-base (well, not yet at least). Jennifer wants to know who’s in with a chance other than Fed? I would love to see Nicolas Mahut have a good run. The young Frenchy loves grass, as he proved two weeks ago by beating Nadal and running Roddick close in the Queen’s final. In the women’s, asks Krista, does Amelie have a shot? Yup, I think so. Again, she’s one of this rare breed of French player who likes grass much better than clay or hard, and her backhand is second only to Justine Henin’s. If she can fire down some good forehands, she’s got the game to dominate. Ditto Ana Ivanovic – if she can Serb and volley (groan) to the best of her capabilities, she’ll be a match for anyone.
