Early Commitments

Major Player Commitments to Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup

Memphis, TN – Allen Morgan, Chairman of Morgan Keegan & Company and Vice Chairman, Regions Financial, and Hu Meena, President of Cellular South, simultaneously announced that Andy Roddick and Venus Williams, the most recognized Americans in tennis, will play in the 2007 tennis tournament. Venus, last year’s Wimbledon champion, is slated to play the first match on Monday night, February 19th, and Andy Roddick is scheduled to play the first match on Tuesday night, February 20th.

In addition, Tournament Director Phil Chamberlain, announced that James Blake, ranked #8 in the world, and a very recent winner over Rafael Nadal in the Tennis Masters Cup, will play in the tournament, as will Tommy Haas, currently ranked #11 and last February men’s tournament winner.

Concurrently, Mac Winker, Tournament Chairman and Owner of The Racquet Club of Memphis, announced that Venus Williams has also committed to participate in a special fund raising event for the National Civil Rights Museum. Beverly Robertson, President of the National Civil Rights Museum, stated "It is such a special honor to have tennis legend, Venus Williams, agree to support the National Civil Rights Museum, while competing in the tennis tournament here in Memphis.” "She has made such monumental contributions to the sport and we are delighted that she feels compelled to also leave her Legacy here through her fundraising efforts." Memphis music legend, David Porter, has agreed to serve as honorary Chairman of the fund raising event.

These special announcements are “The Perfect Fit”, The Racquet Club’s new marketing slogan, for the Club, the tournament, the City of Memphis, and the entire Mid-South region.

I'm truly shocked that the American players have committed to their home ATP event.
