I'm truly shocked that the Croatian players have committed to their home ATP event.

hahahah, I thought pretty much the same. It's not too surprising that they play Zagreb. Isn't it the Capital of Croatia as well?

Well it may be shocking considering that neither of them played Umag last year.

The only thing that's terrible for them about Umag is that it's on clay, and they all suck on clay and know they'll get more points playing on the US hardcourts at the same time Zagreb is on fast, hard, indoor courts and they're all good on that, so of course they're going to play on it - especially when the only alternative ATP tourney that week is on the clay of Vina del Mar!

Interesting term for Ljubicic who has reached the French Open semi-final and has reached semi-final in Hamburg in his career.

I think by his own admission Ljubicic would admit that clay is his least favourite surface. He is a high ranked player so obviously he should be able to produce results on any surface, and maybe saying he sucked on clay was a little cruel of me - but he himself names his serve as his best shot, and I remember reading an interview with him once where he said he didn't feel "comfortable" on court if his serve wasn't working properly....... So as clay tends to negate the power of the serve I would be very surprised if he would think of himself as someone who excelled on clay - and he certainly wouldn't choose clay over a hard court surface if given the choice of two tournaments to play in the same week. And I don't blame him for it - he must do what's best for his career and where the money and the points are likely to be better for him.

OK - I admit I had forgotten that one I can't deny my knowledge of the smaller US tourneys is not so good. I obviously tend to know more about the European ones because they're more publicised over here, often televised, and the Brits like Murray and Henman are more likely to play in them. Plus on a personal level, I tend to know about the South American ones because most of my own favourite players tend to play in these so I make it my business to read and find out about them - but for the US ones Thanks for the info.

I understand.

In February there are actually 3 parallel swings happening, the European, the Latin American and the one in the U.S.
