Cool Early Commitments

Just thought I'd make this thread since there is no forum yet. This is the time of year when we start getting rumours about who is coming etc. The teams will be officially announced on 18 Oct. So far the only team confirmed is defending champs USA with Venus Williams and Taylor Dent

Australia will also have to be there plus an Asian qualifier (the winner of the Asian Hopman Cup held later this year). This qualifier replaces the original format of having qualies a day before the main tournament starts. Which also means there will be no replacement team...don't know how that will work as in the past the replacement team has been used quite a bit..

Other rumours include:

Serbia (Djokovic with Ivanovic or Jankovic)...pretty sure they will be coming back, as Novak and his coach told me that at AO this year.

Holland - since they were finalists last year

Argentina - with Nalbandian and Dulko

Russia - Marat and any of the Russian girls

Germany - Kiefer (who is apparently keen) + German girl, I guess ALG

Belarus - Mirnyi + Azarenka to make up for last year

Switzerland - Federer + Hingis

These are just speculations that I've read on other boards, nothing definite at all. All I wish is that they would bring Spain and France

So feel free to post any discussions here..

Re: Hopman Cup XIX: 29 Dec '06 - 5 Jan '07

don't think roger will be coming, as he declined to play this exho:
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2006...t_30013303.php
which is on NYE. the article says he's playing dubai but i guess they mean doha.

so if nadal and nalbandian are playing this exho in thailand on NYE, i guess you can rule them out of Hopman Cup too

Bring a spanish team and please ditch the dutch team. I don't mind Michaella, but man Wessles or whatever his name is, is a bore. I hope Argentina and Belarus come out too.

Juan Monaco, Tommy Robredo, Fernando Gonzalez, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer, Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Juan Ignatio Chela, Fernando Verdasco, Carlos Moya, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Lucas Arnold Ker, Nicolas Lapentti

i agree they should bring a spanish team...spain should be one of the teams that comes virtually every year with the depth that they have. it's ridiculous they haven't been back since 2003

well i think roger and hingis are off the list

you're right, they might bring dima if marat doesn't want to play...that would also be ok

i think ana ivanovic confirmed for serbia too...so i am told..

Re: Hopman Cup XIX: 29 Dec '06 - 5 Jan '07

i knew it, they're bringing Spain back (article from Tennis Australia): http://www.tennisaustralia.com/pages...=3&newsid=2205

Robredo for Hyundai Hopman Cup

Perth, October 4 - Former Hyundai Hopman Cup winner and world No. 8, Tommy Robredo, will return to Perth this summer to represent Spain in the ITF Mixed Teams Tennis Championship, partnering Anabel Medina Garrigues.

Robredo, the No. 2 Spaniard behind Rafael Nadal, has won two titles this season - the Masters Series Hamburg and in Bastad - and boasts a 42-23 record.

The 24-year-old Robredo is aiming for his first year-end ATP Top-10 finish.

Robredo was a 19-year-old rising star when he won the Hyundai Hopman Cup with Spanish legend Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in 2002. His blistering forehand took Spain to a thrilling victory over the USA as he came back from championship point down against Jan Michael Gambill to level the final with victory in the third set tie break.

Tommy Robredo: aiming for a top 10 finish in 2006.

Robredo’s partner is Spain’s No. 1 female player and ranked 28 in the world. Garrigues, who is also 24, is having her best year on Tour, reaching a career-high ranking of 23 in singles and 15 in doubles, winning two singles titles in Canberra and Palermo. She also reached the singles ffinal of the WTA tour event in Guangzhou, in China last week and in doubles earlier this year she reached the Semi-Finals of Roland Garros.

Spain is the second team confirmed for this year’s event, along with the USA, represented by defending champion Taylor Dent and former world No. 1 Venus Williams, the winner of five Grand Slam singles titles who will make her debut appearance in Perth.

Hyundai Hopman Cup XIX is the official Mixed Teams Competition of the ITF and will be held at the Burswood Dome from 30 December 2006 to 5 January 2007.

Re: 2007 Tournaments?

who play in hopman cup is very important for me, lol as i spend a lot of time in the first week each year watching that event on abc! (unless i go to adelaide) and since there are only a handful of players playing round-robin, it can be boring seeing the same people all the time if you don't like them that much. taylor dent is one example ahhhh welcome back

Re: 2007 Tournaments?

lol yeah tell me about it...we deserve to have a better tournament this year after last year's bore...it was the worst field ever I think.

so far this year's commitments are Dent/V. Williams and Robredo/Medina-Garrigues. i'm happy at least Spain is coming back. all i need now is for Marat to come too hehe

Re: 2007 Tournaments?

there really is no reason why countries like france, spain, and russia can't spare two players for an exhibition. especially when many don't want to compete for real in the first week of the year. was france represented last time? i don't recall...

has mcnamee left hopman cup too?

i'm always rather tense every october and november, about january lol whether i should travel, is anyone going with me, what tickets to buy etc etc. although these days i do not automatically have the month off
