Re: Kristof Vliegen

Dit stond op teletext vandaag :

Kristof Vliegen gaat in december trai-
nen met tenniscoach Nick Bollettieri.
De Amerikaan ontfermt zich sinds kort
ook opnieuw over Xavier Malisse.

"Ik ben er al eens gaan trainen. Mijn
trainer Philippe Dehaes is de vertegen-
woordiger van zijn tennisschool in
België, maar ik denk dat vooral Xavier
Malisse het over mij heeft gehad", zegt
Vliegen in La Derničre Heure. "Het is
leuk uit de mond van Bollettieri te ho-
ren dat je een goede speler kan worden"

De tennisschool van Nick Bollettieri in
Florida is wereldberoemd. Toppers als
Agassi en Capriati trainden er al.

Re: Kristof Vliegen

I hope that Kristof can defend his points in Adelaide next season, otherwise he will lose a lot of points

Yeah...but that's a hard task... Otherwise he has to go back to the challengers I think...

Re: Kristof Vliegen

If my calculations are right, Kristof will drop in the rankings to number 163
For the following tournaments he can still can get an entry based on his former and higher place; hopefully he can pick one of these tournaments to climb again enormously in the rankings!
Go Kristof!

Re: Kristof Vliegen

How does this stuff working? I mean, why does he have problems now with starting on tournaments? i'm sorry, but I'm not very well on such stuff.

Re: Kristof Vliegen

I will try to explain, but don't shoot me if there are some mistakes in the following explanation

Every player can commit to a tournament where he wants to play, but only the highest ranked players will get a chance to get into the main draw. Than there's a bunch of players who can still play qualifications to get into the main draw. The rest won't get a chance to play in this tournament, except if a qualifier withdraws before the tournament starts and a lower ranked player can replace him as being an alternate. An other way to get into such a tournament without having a high enough ranking is to get a wild card from the organisation of the tournament.

Now to get back to the case of Kristof:
He has already committed to some tournaments in the near future, when he was still having his good ranking. His result in Adelaide won't affect this ranking, it will stay the same as when he committed to these tournaments. So for a little while he can still play some bigger tournaments and will get easier into the main draw of an event. This will only be for 3 or 4 weeks I guess... When we are that far he will enter a commitment list with his new - lower - ranking. That means he can't play the bigger tournaments anymore, he'll probably has the play again challengers, where one can't win as much points as at ATP-tournaments.

Well, actually it is harder to explain than I thought it would be. Hope you'll understand.

Re: Kristof Vliegen

Yes, I understood. Thank you very much. I hope he will earn a lot of points. He's a very good and nice player, isn't he? I saw him last year in Adelaide when he almost won the tournament.
