Re: While Mathieu is on the (Mont)court, we cheer in here! (Current Stop : Grenoble)

The girl of the blog wrote that he wasn't very self-confident for this match, I had low expectations for the tournament - but I thought/hoped he would beat Oger.

Oh well, the tournament was annoying to follow anyway, poor scores, no pics, no news, nobody seems to attend this event on the French boards... Next, please.

So, 1st round loss in doubles too (7/6 - 6/1 to Drake-Nielsen), it's been another successful tournament for Mathieu.
At least he didn't have to go very far.

Next: the qualies in Metz.

Mathieu is seeded #2 in the Metz qualies (the level is not as good as last year with Djokovic, Mirnyi, Simon, etc.)

He's got a bye in the 1st round and will play the winner of Mutis-Karcher - 2 Frenchies for a change.

I just looked at the OOP for qualifiers, and saw he wasn't there and presumed he must've pulled out - Great news

I'm not sure about his being 2nd seed though, especially seeing as he barely plays away from clay

Re: While Mathieu is on the (Mont)court, we cheer in here! (Current Stop : Grenoble)

I know, that's why I'm so glad he's seeded, it will be hard enough for him to win 2 matches on this surface.
He'll play Mutis who just won in 2 sets against Karcher.

Here are the links of the qualies draw:

Mathieu plays Mutis 3rd match on centre court tomorrow

If Mathieu can win, he'd play either Fish, Hrbaty, Patience, or Gasquet in the main draw. I think we know who we'd like him to draw.....it's another Frenchie, and his first name isn't Richard

I prefer not to think about his MD opponent yet, there are 3 rounds qualifying, he must win 2 matches first...
=>

Mathieu is playing at the moment, it's so nice to have livescores for a change:

(or http://live.opendemoselle.com/)
It doesn't look too good so far, Mutis never is in danger on his own serve (unlike Mathieu) and broke at 3-3. 5-3 now.

Allez Mathieu, bon Dieu, surprends-moi!

He did surprise me , he broke back when Mutis was serving for the set, 5-5!

Gosh, he can't hold this stupid serve.

Oops, I had to leave shortly and Mutis is already leading 5-2 in the 2nd set and serving for the match now.

Easy hold for Mutis, 7-5 6-2. No comment.

Re: While Mathieu is on the (Mont)court, we cheer in here! (Current Stop : Metz)

I don't get it because judging by the little bit I could see in RG, he should be able to play decently on hardcourt too with his game, he's no Ramirez-Hidalgo.

The girl of the blog wrote last time that she's moving and has no Internet connection at the moment, so she can't give us much news.
There isn't much to say anyway.

Re: While Mathieu is on the (Mont)court, we cheer in here! (Current Stop : Metz)

A few French newspapers or websites are mentioning the match, but always from Mutis' perspective because he's from Metz.
For example:
http://www.estrepublicain.fr/sportsl...200223969.html

Yesterday, Mutis proved again in front of his buddies S. Grosjean, A. Clément and O. Patience that the tournament of Metz is special to him - at the expense of the French hope Mathieu Montcourt, who held him to be a player in early retirement. (I doubt Mathieu is underestimating anybody on this surface, but the article does sound a little bit like that. ) "Clever like a monkey", Olivier Mutis "sent him back to school" with his dropshots and precise passing shots and showed that he still has a remarkable "feeling for the ball". (...) Mutis' comments: "Montcourt's game, which is more offensive, suited me better than Karcher's. I enjoyed this match much more than the 1st round. (That I can believe, it looked like a walk in the park on the SB if you except the little choke job at the end of the 1st set - it should have been 6-4 6-2.) I didn't play too badly, without being great either. I served well. Against Ascione, I'll have to be better than today and physically strong."

Not an exact translation, but that's about what the article says.
It sounds pretty bad for Mathieu, the only good point for me is that he seems to play offensively, even though it's not very successful so far.
