I always liked Asterix more than Tintin. Just shows you needed time to come to my level of maturity

Hema,
You either have the ego the size of Russia or you have the ego the size of the Vatican city trying to blow it up to the size of Russia.

I'm not sure which it is yet but I have my theories.

Oh (Mensa) Hema....

But for those who are still here, you cannot miss today's thread from 2003! Honestly, I'm not obsessed but he's the only poster that really annoys me!
What did humans do before toothbrushes? Did people used to kiss back then?

You're trying to annoy me with the Asterix stuff? Cute, but it doesn't work. I like Asterix & Obelix a lot.

You've been reading Asterix in Belgium, though?
You know what Julius Ceasar said about the Belgians?
"Of all the Gauls, the Belgae are the bravest." ("...Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae...")

Ceasar encountered the most fierce resistance against his army in Belgium, much more so than in Asterix' corner of Gaul.
The leader of the Belgian Gauls, Ambiorix, has a statue in Tongeren, Flanders.

I do like Asterix a lot but I think it's more repetitive than Tintin + only the scripts of René Goscinny work well. Once he died, the series should have stopped. The Tintin stories are richer + Tintin doesns't need magic to be brave. He's Belgian, not French.

Right, I'll get my coat.
sorry ild, i expressed myself badly cos i was typing in a hurry. what i meant was that i was cracking up reading the book because besides the jokes i was also laughing at their portrayal of the belgians because i was imagining your indignation.

fantastic book. my fave bit was how at home obelix was at the idea of the breakfast followed by lunch.

i read about the bravest warriors thing that's the whole premise of asterix in belgium chief vitalstatix gets super annoyed by caesar's declaration and so he sets off for belgium accompanied by asterix and obelix. then they have a wager and old julius comes to preside and his troops get beaten up. just brilliant
