I see. But why Ireland in particular? I did find out when there, that Ireland is considered the Silicon valley of Europe. Is it for that kind of jobs that people emigrate?
No, quite the opposite, it was for the lowest paying jobs like working in farms and fast food restaurants and construction. Why Ireland? Well, Ireland and UK wanted the immigrants, in contrast to some other European countries which didn't give work permits after we joined the EU in 2004, plus more people knew English than, say, Swedish. So most Latvians, Lithuanians and Poles went to Ireland and UK. Estonians went to Finland. The economy was going up and Ireland needed the workers. Of course, many of them came back after the crisis hit and they lost their jobs but many also built a new life there and moved with their whole families. The saddest situation is when both parents are working abroad and leave their children with a grandparent or even alone
