Re: Merton launches a coup, takes over thread Rafachat vol 25

Since I've just moved the previous current volume to the blog section over the top of them they will probably not be noticed now, so in case anyone wanted to know I split 2 more volumes of the thread today cos I had nothing better to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon

The betting markets for chess are not deep but Topalov was the slight favourite before the match. It was reasonable, Topalov had the higher ranking, he looked like a difficult match up for Anand, and the match was taking place in Bulgaria.

After the match we found out that Kasparov, Kramnik and Carlsen (the two previous champs and the current #1 ranked player) all helped Anand for this match. An unprecedented fact for chess, it reveals how much theses guys dislike Topalov and especially his manager Danailov.

Yes, because he was on after Serena.

Yes, that's interesting that three absolute gun players wanted to help Anand to take down Topalov, this is when you know you are hated.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

According to BBC radio, the ground staff have dumped a massive amount of clay onto Chatrier and the Spanish press are going mad.

Re: Merton launches a coup, takes over thread Rafachat vol 25

During the game no outside help is allowed, actually these days players are not even allowed to have cell phones active. But top players have entire teams helping them to prepare, this is something the former Soviets started and perfected. Now they also use computers a lot but still strong backing is important.

Danailov claimed after the match that Topalov's second was more valuable than Kasparov, Kramnik and Carlsen combined. He also claimed his player totally dominated but could not deal the final blow.

Why would that bother the Spanish press?
