Just my opinion anyway.
Think you're right. Quite reasonable to expect an off-year after a fairly meteoric rise - plenty of precedents in the past. It just seems that the bar of success is set higher these days and - more worrying - a player's career is that much shorter. And the Safin example is always at the back of one's mind, especially for someone as - ahem, shall we say versatile and lively - as Nole...

Yes - you're right - there aren't so many players who carry on way into their 30's like they did in earlier times. Agassi was definitely the exception not the rule by doing that recently. They always say the "second year" is the worst don't they? And although Nole obviously had great success in 2007, it was 2008 where he won a Grand Slam and The Masters', so I guess any year after that will be a bit of a comedown

If you feel like writing it again, save it before you press Submit - that's what I always do with longer posts these days

The problem is, I am not capable of writing it all over again.

Anyway, to sum up, what I basically said was that Nole will use to start of a new season - clay season - to get it together. And evethough he only had a week off to train, etc, I think that what he need sis not a lot of days off, just a few and then start playing again to slowly get his conffidence back. I also think he needs a bit of Murray's or Nadal's luck, if they wouldn't mind to lend it.

Some injuries last year, and then a bad lack of confidence I've always had a soft spot for him. He carried my bags into a Hotel once - a total gentleman and a star

Really? How nice from him! I liked him, and his game. I had him as a guy capable of beat the top 3.

But I must confess his behaviour on court was a bit over the limitis, IMO.

Agreed. Exhibit A - JJ. After having a terrible start on HCs, she seems to have found some steadiness on clay. Hopefully, the surface switch will help Nole too.
