Ok I`ll tackle this one at a time.....from what you described because
you naturally play a defensive game and then when under pressure
because of a good shot from your oppenent you sky the ball when
What is happening is one of 2 things.....
....Because they`ve hit a good shot your not hitting into the ball
with your body weight moving into the direction of where you want
the ball to go.
To hit a successful slice....a slice that really penetrates court...I`m
not talking about those slow balls that float in the air...I mean slice
with zip!! You gotta lean INTO the shot....almost like your trying to
lean towards the net....then your slice....(hit high to low)...you
hit a effective shot!
...your hitting too much underneath the ball. Hit a slice in slow
motion without hitting a ball....see how your racket strings are facing about
45 degrees up to the sky.....well thats where the balls gonna go if
you don`t chop down into the ball while leaning forward.
At first the top spin single handed backhand can be frustrating. Simply
put check you have the correct grip (common problem)....then with your
swing starting low.....imagine you are brushing up the back of the ball
NOT hitting directly into the middly of the ball........or the underside of the ball.....
You need your low racket whipping up the back of the ball leading to a nice
high finish for your follow through....keep a relaxed wrist and you hit your
first topspin backhand with minutes guaranteed!!
Hope this helps you
