Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

(Not sure if this is already a thread.)

What's the worst loss you've ever had?

Mine was in the semis of the U14 Canadian Nationals, where I was up 6-4, 5-4, 30-0 serving. I double-faulted twice, then lost two more points after that on errors, and went on to lose 6-4, 6-7 (5), 5-7.

Oh, and at 5-6 down in the 2nd set tiebreak, I missed a floating volley into the open court by hitting it into the tape. I had break-points at 4-4 to go up 5-4 serving in the 3rd as well.

Man, that was painful...

PS: The guy I lost to didn't even come close to winning the final, but he was a pusher and the winner was a much better pushed. I'm an attacker/ counter-attacker, so at least I could have had a chance if I had a good day. Dangit.

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

I only play club play matches for fun not for improvement and I prefer to play againt my friends. I also don't care about winning or losing so long as I play well, that's my real aim. I once played this terrible guy who was moonballing everything with no spin just putting it there for me to hit. I played a terrible first set and lost it 6-4, God only knows how. I was calm but felt a little sick at how bad I played. Second set I simply stayed calm kept coming to net and won the set 6-0. Then, for whatever reason, we were playing the decider TB (too many people want to play to have a real third set) and I was winning 4 or 5-1 when I started getting impatient again. I wasn't particularly choking (I don't really get nervous) I was just playing terrible again. I missed a bunch of forehands and lost 6-8.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

I once lost two match points serving for the deciding set at 6-5, got broken, went up 6-1 in the TB... and ended up losing the match 9-7 in the third set tiebreak.

GOOD LUCK: Safin, Murray, Ancic, Gasquet, Tipsarevic, Tsonga, Isner, Santoro.
BOO: Puerta, Davydenko, Kiefer, Ljubicic, Canas and all the DOPERS.

There is also a very special place in my heart for the three greatest WTA players of all time ---- Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, and Monica Seles!!!

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

I never choked a match. I had only one real heart-breaking lose.

I was at the final of interclub , of U-16. 2 singles and one doubles being played.
I was 0-6 4-5 30-40 down. Went to win that set 7-6 (4). The other two matches had finished with one win and one loss. My match defined all half an year work .
I started 0-4, then 3-5. Saved two MPs more receiving 4-5. Went into the TB and lost 6-8, wasting one match point at 6-5.

I couldnt play tennis for about two weeks after that.

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

Once I was leading 64 40, but ended up losing the match something like 64 67 26. I was a junior back then, and it hurt a lot. In the beginning I played like never before. But then I just lost the plot. I guess you could say I choked, but then again who doesn't sometimes. If somebody says he has never choked a match away, he is lying.

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

60 40 to me - ended up losing 60 67(12) 26

Ran out of gas... was my third match of the day. But I took a lot from it, I knew it was time to hit the gym a bit more, go running etc. Physically, I just wasn't strong then - now i'm getting there!

Beat the guy 61 61 the next time though

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

I was up 6-1 2-0, lost the second set 2-6, then in the third set super tie-breaker I was up 7-2 but missed an inside-out forehand by an inch. Ended up losing the tie-break 9-11 (I had no MP's though). My opponent was a moonballer, which I usually have no trouble with anymore but that match I just fell apart.

The next match I played I beat a guy that had beaten me a few times though so all is well.

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

Scorewise...probably a -2 and -1 venture.

Most heartbreaking: 9-8(15) (heat-rule, pro-set...tiebreaker at 8-all)...in our USTA District tournament. Had my partner and I won, our team would have gone on to the round robin...and we beat the team that ended up winning. We didn't play particularly well early in the set but really picked it up in the later games. I thought we were gonna pull it out but ultimately lost the tiebreaker 17-15 (I think). I'd like to say the weather was an issue -- it was a noon match with 95F plus humidity and 120F temp readings 4" above the court surface. But my partner ran out of gas (was seeing spots and probably should have gotten some medical attention) and we tried to close out a few points at the end more quickly than we would have otherwise. Oh well.

I love my girls.

Re: Worst Loss YOU Have Ever Had?

I was playing an exhibition for my school; the only reason I wasn't ranked was because I couldn't make all the games. For some odd reason I was nervous and couldn't hit the ball and the times I did, I hit back to them. My arms felt like jelly or something like that. Plus it was doubles. These guys were not that good, they tapped their forehands and their shots usually weren't hard unless they were returning lollipop serves. I had played our number 2 player and other players better than them and played 10x better. We lost 0-6, 1-6. *sobs* lol.
