My little brother wants to be a pro.

Well I have this little brother who's about 5 years younger than me. He just turned 18 and just finished high school and wants to dedicate full time to tennis. He actually wants to go to a tennis school and work his way up from the bottom. It's just that he's so passionate about it, almost obsessed. It's all he ever talks about. I don't want to crush his dreams or anything, but I don't want him to try so hard at it and waste precious years in his life in the event of him failing. He's actually pretty good and has the fundamentals down packed. He had a growth spurt too last year and ended up taller than me.

Any tips you want to give him? He hasn't talked to our mom and dad about it either so I don't know where this is going. I want him to be happy, but he's a little too ambitious.

Re: My little brother wants to be a pro.

Tell him to read MTF he will surely change his mind.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Re: My little brother wants to be a pro.

What is his name? Has he played any tournaments? Any videos? Is he doing college? Does he work? Tell him to get into coaching or one of those colleges that have a Tennis Pro Management degree program.

If he is that obsessed with it, and he truly wants to dedicate his life to it, anything can happen. Tell him to contact me if he wants more tips.

Re: My little brother wants to be a pro.

I would guess that by the age of 18 he had better be a top caliber player to even consider the pro tour. There are 15 year olds that show the ability already to hit at that level. Just my 2 cents.
