Me hitting yesterday

sorry for the narrow view and the angle. I thought I had recorded more but for some reason it stopped at this point. It was a windy day. My hitting partner hits a heavy lefty forehand but he didn't play great yesterday. I hope to get better video early next week.

Re: Me hitting yesterday

In this video I hit cross court forehands but when I play I am much better hitting inside out.

Re: Me hitting yesterday

Forehand is quite flush on the ball, a bit too much for my personal liking. Of course you generate the spin, I just certainly prefer to hit through the ball a lot more and then brushing over the ball but you are definitely rolling that forehand. You need to relax on your backhand, your footwork is a bit awkward and you seem to reach for the ball a little and pushing it rather than hitting through. But shots are definitely adequate.

Re: Me hitting yesterday

When I get tired late in matches the flush becomes more extreme and my forehand dosent penetrate. Forcing me to play a lot more defense than I would like later in matches.

Try ending your forehand swing above your shoulder instead of around your waist, I think it would improve that stroke considerably.

Well, he is wiping over and around the ball quite a bit so where his stroke ends in my opinion isn't really the issue. I just think his shot could have more bite or at least play the variety by hitting through the ball a little more rather than around it.

That's basically the effect I was envisioning with my advise.

By the way, do you have video material of yourself playing? Your backhand motion looks really unorthodox in your signature, I'm wondering how it looks in action

Re: Me hitting yesterday

It's not uncommon for players who generate a lot of topspin on the ball to have a lower end point. It's a comfort thing, and generally a natural one at that.

To the OP: Just a couple of observations and thoughts...

1. On your backhand, have you ever thought of adding a bit more to your takeback? Right now, it's minimalistic, but I wonder if you're a bit stiff on it because of that.

2. I know it's just a hit-around, so you may not be very into it, but I feel like you could do well to get your legs into your shots more. Right now, you're more or less walking to the ball, which is keeping you from getting your core into the shot at times, or even getting a full rotation upon taking the racquet back sometimes.
