Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

Played THE WALL at my tennis club today ( 27 years playing experience to my 4 and a half or so ) lost the first set 6-1 and the second 6-4 . Also played the pusher at my club and had the hardest fought 6-0 win I've probably ever had . Sooo long but won 6-0 .

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

I just have to work so much on hitting with topspin my forehand just goes wristy at times . Unless I crush it flat .

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

Like Wawrinka I really stepped up in 2013 and made the next step in 2014 I΄ve won all my matches so far (many against higher rankeds and in straights) but now I΄m just coming back from an injury

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

My serve is mostly a mess. I've definately an okay topspin serve, but it rarely hassles my opponent I just kick it to get it in more often. I can hit big flat serves though which I go for when my timing is good.

Forehand is my crowning glory. It's a cross between Davenport and Ivanovic, impeccable timing, mostly flat with a little topspin. I prefer it when the ball is at or below waist height and coming with a bit of pace, it's a little vulnerable against a high defensive lob. I've got great defense on that wing, and a good lob and passing shot. I can evolve into Nadal and hit insane topspin on that side too.

My backhand is a mess and changes every match. At it's best I grip the racket like Dokic and rip it crosscourt all day long with a good amount of spin. My second tier backhand is like Djokovic or Sharapova when I hold the racket like a club, but my timing is shit on that side and I abandon it fairly quickly. Then I resort to my Hingis backhand which I think looks like Hingis' but it's just me side-swiping the ball and not hitting through it at all, it goes in more though and I can hit an off backhand then atleast. Then I resort to my Hantuchova BH where I hold it like a club and just hit club and up but with less pace. My slice is okay but I struggle to get it cross court and always am late. It's more a chip than anything.

Good anticipation at net but shit volleys, which kills me inside as a fan of net queen Martina Hingis.

Favourite shots are my flat FH through the court or CC, then my off FH from the middle of the court ala Hingis. Then lob

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

THE BIG ONE is here for me now . Club Championships at my main club , I play at two . Would love to win a match . Lost 2nd round last year but had a walkover in round 1 . Never won a match in the singles (or any singles for that matter when it comes to club ) . Only one way to go into it and that's play aggressive attacking tennis . Plus maybe get a bit of coaching before just to sort my game out a bit .

Na . If all else fails charge the net like crazy . I like to play aggressive that's how I play although I prefer playing from the back . My net game wasn't exactly solid last year .

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

I do push a bit sometimes but it's very minor pushing . I play to win above all else but I like to attack as it's the only way to improve .

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

Lost my match at my main clubs singles 6-0 , 6-1 . Just horrible , bombed off the court by a tough 14 or 15 year old . On the backfoot at the start of every rally . Just a class above me.

Re: Discuss YOUR tennis

I started around late 2010. Only recently have I begun to play tennis seriously. I'm okay, but I'm not some sort of prodigy at tennis. I am top 25 in my state, and top 200 in the Eastern Section. By the end of the year, I want to be top 100 in Eastern, and top 10 in my state. I only recently started playing USTA tournaments, so I have only 3 tournaments to defend until the end of the year. Hopefully, I keep playing well.
As for my game, I have a crushing flat first serve. (at least for my age) I serve around 90-110 mph first serve. My second serve I try to mix between slice and topspin a lot, it goes around 65-75 mph. I am working on my second serve, as it is a weakness. (inconsistent and slow) I tend to double fault 5 times a match (at the very least) My forehand has a lot of topspin, but I keep it low and deep. My forehand is absolutely better than my backhand, I can hit extreme short topspin angles, and I LOVE crushing the ball. My backhand is a lot more loopy, and I slice it a lot. I also use the old tactic of slice it low, and come into the net. I have very good reaction time, but am rather slow. My volleys are quite good, (though sometimes I become a little trigger happy and attempt a swinging volley) and my smashes are very good also, high, powerful, and extreme angle. I generally am a fast hitter (a.k.a brainless ball basher) but I have been trying to mix it up, and have been trying to get more variety to my game. (which has been helping me improve, and has been successful so far.)

Had a county singles comp on sunday . lost my first match 4-0 , 4-1 . (I am only a 9.2) then had a gut wrenching consolation draw loss, played a 9.1 won the first set 4-0 lost the second 4-1 then lost a first to 10 leading by 2 tiebreak 11-9 . got 2 doubles comps at one club and the yearly singles comp at the biggest club in the county coming up.
