Taking up tennis

I've been pondering the thought of taking up tennis for quite a while now and with Summer approaching, I'm thinking of starting to play. I'm 14 years old and have been playing Football for around 6 years and play a decent level but it will be the offseason and the only sport I'll be doing during Summer will be Cricket, maybe. I might do Tennis instead however as I just love playing! I love watching it as well, whenever I can, and generally enjoy most things tennis related. I haven't played for a club, played in a tournament or been coached before but there are a few clubs around I think. I also have a good friend(girl) that plays tennis at a near by club.

I know it is never too late to start up, but it's unrealistic thinking I will get anywhere in Tennis, isn't it? ie. proffesional.

95% of all professionals today start playing as soon as they are old enough to hold a racket, or at least before they are ten. Play for fun.

Re: Taking up tennis

Are you going to hook up with her during practice

Robredo didn't start until' he was 12. If you go to an academy, or literally play every hour after school, sleep, wake up and play tennis before school, and go to school you could do it. Look at Scoville Jenkins.

Re: Taking up tennis

I'd love to play for fun, but I could make it in football. I'd rather make it in tennis at the moment, however, which is what spurred me on to make this thread. I'm not a terrible tennis player though, so it wouldn't be like starting from scratch. I'm willing to play at least 5 times a week afterschool, I think, and would easily stay in shape due to my commitment to running. It's something I'd love to do, despite the odds being against anything coming from my tennis.
